"Doomsday, and Counting"

March 1, 1974

RIGHT CLICK IMAGE TO SAVE EPISODE TO YOUR COMPUTER

Steve tries to help his Russian cosmonaut friend, Vasily (Gary Collins), when a earthquake disrupts a remote Russian base.   Vasilly's fiance is trapped beneath the surface and only the power of a bionic man can save her.

John is joined in the first episode of this new podcast series by fans Eric Cone and Davis Lawson to discuss the episode.  In addition, John's guest is actor Jane Merrow who played Irina, the fiance of Vasily.  They discuss the episode as well as the state of television production today compared to how it was back in 1974.

In addition, John offers a little historical and pop culture perspective of the day this episode aired.

Make sure you let us know what you think of the episode by calling us at 844-OSI-FILE or by writing director@theosifiles.com.

OUR GUEST FOR THIS EPISODE

From Jane Merrow's website - "I have been acting since I was 8 years old, showing off at any opportunity (all actors are show offs, let them not tell you any differently) However I couldn’t start calling myself a professional until 1960, when I started earning my livelihood at it, with my first job as an ASM and understudy in the Lillian Hellman play TOYS IN THE ATTIC, directed by the talented, irascible John Dexter, who told me that the only reason he hired me, was because he could hear me, not true of my contemporaries, according to him.

Suffice it to say, I have been quite successful as an actor, and able to support myself reasonably well along the way. I loved my career, love my career and will keep at it as long as I am physically and mentally able!

I am not planning to lay out my entire career and life here, I will do that over the life of this site and hope it keeps your interest. Suffice it to say, I have been quite successful as an actor, and able to support myself reasonably well along the way. I loved my career, love my career and will keep at it as long as I am physically and mentally able! Born in England of a German refugee father and an English mother, both artistic, both wonderful, but not with each other, I have divided my life pretty equally between the US and the UK, having had or acquired family in both countries along the way. I have received a few awards, including a Golden Globe nomination and had some nice comments about my work and a few miserable ones. So that’s me for a start."

OUR BIONIC OPERATIVES FOR THIS EPISODE

Eric Cone - Long time bionic fan, he can remember watching the pilot episode with his father.  Was recently reunited with his Steve Austin "Action Figure" and is a much happier man for it.

David Lawson - Long time fan.  Moderator of the Bionic Toy Action Page on Facebook.

Raven Oak is the author of the Amazon bestselling fantasy novel Amaskan’s Blood and the upcoming space operas, Class-M Exile and The Eldest Silence. She began her career as many authors do–with the lofty goal of becoming the next Anne McCaffrey, Connie Willis, or Neil Gaiman. At the age of twelve, she took her first steps into novel writing by penning a 320 page novel about dragons with all the drama of a typical twelve-year-old. She studied English literature and music in college, and in 2001, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Texas. She later completed her Master of Science Degree in CECS from UNT in 2005. After twelve years in the classroom as a computer and English teacher, she retired from education to pursue writing full-time.

When she’s not writing, she’s getting her game on with tabletop games, indulging in cartography, or staring at the ocean. Raven is currently at work on Amaskan’s War and The Eldest Traitor. She is a member of the local Seattle writing groups Ladies of the Write andWayward Writers, as well as the Northwest Science Fiction Society and PNWA. She was an established member of the now defunct Magnolia Chapter One writing group. Raven is married to her gamer husband, who is a game engineer/software developer. They have three kitties who enjoy lounging across the keyboard when writing deadlines approach. They live on a cliff in Seattle, WA, less than mile from the ocean.

Aired March 14/16, 1967

Hollywood legend Tallulah Bankhead gives her final performance as the menacing Black Widow.  Her plot is so simple, even the Batcomputer can't work it out - robbing banks in Gotham in alphabetical order.  As simple as the plt may seem, there is something very endearing about the episode, one that has remained a favorite of John's to this very day.  He's joined in this discussion by Batman at 45 author Chris Gould.

Comment on the episode here or write thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com

Chris Gould was born in the UK in 1983, and has lived in Japan since 2008. His career so far has seen him work as a political researcher, local government officer, sports journalist, business English teacher, translator and magazine writer.

Introduced to Batman re-runs as a child, Chris would watch the show as a junior high-schooler, university student and mid-career professional, his appreciation taking on new forms at every step.

Convinced that Batman constitutes the definitive guide to mid-60s popular culture, and is therefore an invaluable source of study for future generations, Chris took to researching the show in detail, eventually producing the ebook: Batman at 45: The Ultimate Tribute to Pow, Bam and Zap!

The aim of his research is to underline the point that no matter how many years have passed, Batman, through its sheer diversity of stars and insightful lines, helps us fully understand how we got to where we are today.

As we discussed in a previous interview, this is actor Michael Gray's favorite episode.  So it made sense to ask Michael to join us to review "Little Boy Lost".  In this episode we discuss the mixed moral message, writer/director Arthur Nadel, real life trauma of children, and John's reversal of his opinion of this episode.

It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode.  Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.

Moral: “If you don't communicate, you'll never solve your problems, and the most important communication for all of us, is with the ones we love. Remember, there are times when everyone needs help, even you."

The Ant-Man was taken down after a profitable run by Tom Cruise's latest Mission: Impossible adventure.  And now there are a series of new movies opening this weekend that could easily take its place.  What movies interest you?  Or perhaps you'll stay home and watch any of the new DVD release offerings.  It's all here on a new Weekly Podioplex with Michael Falkner.

The Roundtable Podcast

Every great story begins starts with a great idea. But… how do you know if your idea is strong enough to bear the weight of pen and ink? You do what we all do… you tell someone about it.  You talk it through, bounce ideas around, and get some feedback.  You have a discussion.

Now… wouldn’t it be great if you could have that discussion with some folks who’ve been around the block once or twice, who have published a book or two, or edited a few novels?  Now THAT discussion would be fabulous!  Think of what you could learn about your craft, the questions you could ask and the answers you’d get!

That’s what The Roundtable Podcast is all about.  It’s about nurturing ideas, fostering inspiration, and getting the creative juices flowing.  It’s also about mistakes and blind alleys, harsh reality and uncomfortable truths.

Each week we invite publishers, editors, and authors to get on the line with a writer who presents an idea on the table… an idea for a story they want to write.  And then everyone digs in, asking questions, pointing out problems, and proposing solutions.  Characters are dissected or dismissed, plots reinforced or torn apart altogether, and hopefully what started as an idea, becomes something more.

It becomes a story… one we’d all like to hear.

This August 6th marks the 104th birthday of actress, comedian, and entertainment mogul Lucille Ball.  Before there was the television classic I Love Lucy, there was its radio incarnation, My Favorite Husband.  Though her radio husband Richard Denning works in a bank, not as band leader, you can’t help but see the roots of Lucy in Ball’s character Liz and all the zany situations she stumbles into.  But Ball was more than just a comic actress.  Like so many performers during the Golden Age of radio, she worked in drama as well.  This week she and real-life husband Desi Arnaz appear inSuspense, "radio's outstanding theater of thrills," which ran for twenty years.  Here they play strangers engaged in a potentially deadly game of cat-and-mouse.  But who is the criminal and who is the victim?
