(coming soon)

James Sherrard is a first generation fan of The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. A collector of all things Bionic as a child, his interest in the shows was reignited when the first Bionic reunion movie was produced in 1987.The following year he met stars Lindsay Wagner and Richard Anderson for the first time through Lindsay Wagner’s Official Fan Club. In 1998, James reworked the Bionic Woman episode guide booklet that he had produced for the club into The Bionic Woman Files website…the longest running Bionic Woman site on the web! Over the years, James has contributed his Bionic knowledge to various books, articles, websites, and television productions. He has also amassed an amazing collection of Bionic memorabilia, from common toys to one-of-a-kind production items. Most recently, James has contributed to the 2010 DVD releases of The Bionic Woman Season One and The Six Million Dollar Man: The Complete Collection. James resides in New York where he is employed by a non-profit organization.

From Betsy Dodd's page:

Growing up in a one-TV household, I had 3 brothers who surrounded me in age—who often teased me for being a “sissy”—and who usually controlled the voting majority for which channel to watch. Back in the 70s, our whirling TV dial was pretty much destroyed because we fought over it so often. One night while the substitute pliers were pointed to their choice of The Six Million Dollar Man(again), suddenly there was OMG ...cue angelic chorus... Jaime Sommers, the world’s first Bionic Woman. Yes!!! Score one for us sissies! I was totally hooked. And the love story between Jaime and Steve was the best. Ever. But then they killed her the following week.

Why did I idolize Jaime Sommers so much? Just as the final season was being released on DVD in the fall of 2011, I stumbled onto some internet bionic fan forums and started posting these offbeat episode reviews. I’m not sure, but when some members encouraged me to go start my own blog, I think it may have been the equivalent of being politely shunned by the Bionic Amish community— puritans of the franchise. (Really, I’m kidding. They’re all fun people and super nice. And they even let me use electricity to sign onto the internet.) Once about ten years ago, I belonged to an online fan “cult” that was framed in a similar style of farcical humor about The X-Files, so to me, this is all a completely normal approach to a television drama.

These days, I am a freelance copywriter, graphic designer and video editor living in Tennessee. No, I am not a blonde, but I am threatening to become one soon if these little gray hairs don’t stop surfacing. I must confess I also did not actually keep a diary in the 70s, but wish now that I had, so I could remember the real reason why I missed so many episodes of my favorite 70s show. For now, I’m blaming my brothers. For everything.

Dan Persons says:

Ah, the romance of the outlaw -- dashing and fearless, living a life of danger and adventure. Except when they're greedy sociopaths leaving a trail of corpses in their wake.

NARCO CULTURA looks into the world of the Mexican drug cartels and how it has spawned a culture that romanticizes and celebrates the bloody exploits of the men behind it. Photojournalist and filmmaker Shaul Schwarz -- leveraging his experience working in such conflict zones as Haiti and the Gaza Strip -- focuses in both on the real-life horror witnessed by Richi Soto, a crime scene investigator in Juarez, Mexico, who has to deal with the terror, corruption, and intimidation spawned by the cartels, and on the cultural impact via the viewpoint of Edgar Quintero, a Los Angeles narcocorrido songwriter and singer, who's acquiring a growing fandom for his odes celebrating the cartels' violent lifestyle.

I was able to sit down with Schwarz for an in-depth glimpse into the motivations for this project and risks encountered in actually bringing it to the screen. Click on the player to hear the show.

We're gearing up to review the third season of The Six Million Dollar Man and the first season of The Bionic Woman.  But before we do that, we need to take one last look at the second season of Six Mill.  John and Paul sit down to look back at their reviews of the past season.  They talk about how their views on certain episodes changed and discuss some things they realized after recording certain episodes.  In addition, they review the special features of the second season DVD release, discuss listener feedback, present a new Bionic Impression Theater, and give you an example of when they have to deal with "Skype Hell."  It's all there and more on this Declassified episode.

Share in the memories Paul and John talked about by picking up the Universal release of season two of The Six Million Dollar Man.

Then, get ready for our look at season three of The Six Million Dollar Man by purchasing the Universal release.

It's a lean week in terms of DVD releases, but that doesn't mean there isn't a jam-packed episode of The Weekly Podioplex.  The Hunger Games: Catching Fire took the number one spot at the box office this past weekend and earned the distinction of being the highest opening weekened movie of November ever.  Plus, there is news of Marvel properties and a Tolkien biopic in the works.  Michael Falkner has it all for a Happy Thanksgiving.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the British science fiction television series, Doctor Who.  While most modern day fans have become so thanks to the reboot of the series in 2005, there are a legion of fans who love all the incarnations of the Doctor, including his first.  In celebration of the anniversary, the Spotlight series will take a monthly look at each of the Doctors.  We begin where it all began in a little salvage yard on Totters Lane with two teachers attempting to find out the secret of their unusual student.  There, they meet the grandfather of the girl, a doctor, played by William Hartnell.  He whisk them away through time and space in a time machine in the shape of a British police box.  And thus the 50 year adventure begins.  John sits down with The G2V Podcast's Arnold T. Blumburg and Scott Alan Woodard to discuss the man and his legacy to the series.  They offer suggestions on episodes to watch and also look at how this first incarnation of the Doctor took some time and development to become the Doctor that everyone knows and loves today.

From Wikipedia:

Hartnell's performance in This Sporting Life was noted by Verity Lambert, the producer who was setting up a new science-fiction television series for the BBCDoctor Who. Lambert offered him the title role. Although Hartnell was initially uncertain about accepting a part in what was pitched to him as a children's series, in part due to his success in films[9], Lambert and director Waris Hussein convinced him to take the part, and it became the character for which he gained the highest profile and is now most remembered. Hartnell later revealed that he took the role because it led him away from the gruff, military parts in which he had become typecast, and, having two grandchildren of his own, he came to relish particularly the attention and affection that playing the character brought him from children.

Doctor Who earned Hartnell a regular salary of £315 per episode by 1966 (in the era of 48 weeks per year production on the series), equivalent to £4,050 a week in modern terms. Throughout his tenure as the Doctor, William Hartnell wore a wig when playing the part, as the character had long hair.

Hartnell's deteriorating health (he suffered from arteriosclerosis, which began to affect his ability to say his lines), as well as poor relations with the new production team on the series after the departure of Verity Lambert, ultimately led him to leave Doctor Who in 1966.

When he left Doctor Who, the producer of the show came up with a unique idea: since the Doctor is an alien, he can transform himself physically, thereby renewing himself. William Hartnell himself suggested that Patrick Troughton should be cast as the new Doctor, stating that "There's only one man in England who can take over, and that's Patrick Troughton". In the fourth episode of the serial The Tenth Planet, the First Doctor regenerated into Troughton's Second Doctor.

Greg Evigan

Currently Greg has just completed 22 episodes of a new situation comedy called "Big Sound." "Big Sound" is a management firm in which Greg's character Bill Sutton, takes on the nerve-racking responsibility of handling clients in the music business. The satirical humor of the show is derived from the fanatical, opulent, and often eccentric behavior of artists, agents, lawyers, publicists, etc., surrounding the clients and the business.

After completing the episodes of "Big Sound" Greg went back to Los Angeles but only for a short stop before he traveled back up to Saskatooon, Canada to perform a role in the independent feature, "Sweet Revenge" AKA Die! Die! Die! (The USA Video title)

Straight from that project Greg was offered the role of a high school teacher who is raising a daughter on his own after the untimely death of his wife. Dealing with the high spirits of his daughter losing her mother and blaming herself, Greg's character has to deal with the "Spirit" that has been living in their home.

Greg is now waiting to hear if a network for series production will pick up a two-hour movie that he filmed in Toronto, June of 2001. The name of the show is "Isabelle Rocks." Greg's character "Steve" is a private investigator who gets roped into precarious situations when he lets his feelings for Isabelle overrun his better judgement. A romantic comedy for the producer Fred Silverman could have a shot for a mid-season replacement.

Last on the work list so far this year is "Reba," where Greg is "Bill the Plumber." This could be a reoccurring role for the show, which is on the WB Network on Friday nights.

Greg is an actor, singer, song writer and musician, known around the world best from his character portrayals of B.J. McKay on the hit television series "B.J. and the Bear"and Joey Harris in "My Two Dads." Although Greg has been successful in both drama and comedy, he actually started out his career in music, performing in local Jersey Bands.

At age 17, he got his first job as a singer in the original Broadway production of "Jesus Christ Superstar." Two years later he continued his stay on the Broadway stage in the leading role of Danny Zuko in the original production of "Grease".

After two back to back hit shows on Broadway, it was music and television producer Don Kirschner who brought Greg to California to meet Norman Lear. (Producer of "All In the Family") The show was called "A Year At The Top" In which Greg co-stared and recorded an album with Paul Shaffer, the notorious bandleader of "Late Night with David Letterman." Greg and Paul Shaffer supplied original music for the show. They were signed to "Casablanca Records" and recorded an album together as none other than,"Greg & Paul."

Greg has also sung the theme songs for many of the TV series that he has appeared in, such as the B.J. & The Bear theme. He co-wrote and sang the theme for the hit series "My Two Dads," called "You Can Count On Me." Greg again sang a duet with Sheryl Crowe for the series theme song for "P.S. I Luv U" in which he co-starred with Connie Selleca.

During the My Two Dads years, Evigan landed his first leading roles in feature films. He starred as Lieutenant Heinaman in "Stripped To Kill" a Roger Corman film with actress Kay Lenz; in the underwater adventure thriller, "Deep Star Six" as Kevin McBride, and in "Private Road" as Brad with actor George Kennedy. "Private Road" gave Greg his first crack at musical supervisor on a film.

An ABC movie of the week project titled "One Of Her Own" attracted critical attention for Greg in the role of Charlie Lloyd, a police officer who rapes his female rookie partner (Lori Loughlin). "He (Evigan) uses his former heartthrob twinkle to turn his cop-on-the-skids into a devilish, misogynistic knucklehead. Evigan's Lloyd is a torturous presence," said Adam Sandler of Daily Variety.

Other movies made for television include "Lies Before Kisses," with Jacqueline Smith;"The Lady Forgets" with Donna Mills; "Deadly Family Secrets" with Gigi Rice and"Colombo" with Peter Falk.

From 1993 to 1995, Greg completed four two-hour television movies based on William Shatner's novels, "TekWars." Set in the year 2034, Evigan starred as Jake Cardigan, an ex-cop-turned-private-eye detective. After the four two-hour movies, Greg went on to complete eighteen one-hour episodes of TekWar which debuted in January1994 for the USA Network.

The two-year residence in Canada enabled Evigan and his family to receive "Landed Immigrant Status," valuable for future projects as producer as well as actor.

Upon his return to Los Angeles Greg was approached to play a role in the Aaron Spelling series "Melrose Place" he accepted the role of Dan Hathaway. Greg completed 13 episodes of the show and Aaron Spelling immediately cast him in his new pilot presentation of "Pacific Palisades" which was sold to the Fox Network. In the thirteen shows that were produced Greg played Robert Russo, architect/adulterer whose business and marriage is on the rocks.

Some of the other more recent projects Greg has starred in were the ABC movie "Nobody Lives Forever." Greg's character, Rick Barrish is caught in a love/murder triangle with his female cop partner and a long-lost girl friend (co-staring Brenda Bakke and Kevin Dobson).

Also aired in the spring of '99, a UPN Made for television movie called "Survivor".

A reoccurring role on the hit NBC series "Veronica's Closet" with Kirsti Alley. Greg once shared the spotlight with Kirsti on a Series that never really got off the ground for more than 13 episodes in the mid-eighties called "Masquerade."

The movie for the Fox Family Channel called "Earth Quake in New York" was shot in Toronto. Suffering the loss of their youngest son in the big quake of '94 in Los Angeles, Greg's character John Rykker moves his family back to New York. Trying to escape the threat, as well as the memories of that horrible experience only to be faced with more of the same when a magnitude 8.2 hits New York City.

During the sweeps week in spring of '99 six episodes of "Family Rules" a UPN/ Jim Hensen production was aired. In this comedy series Greg's character Nate Harrison is a college basketball coach who is raising four daughters on his own.

An independent feature film "The Pawn." Greg stars as Ray Harland a New York cop who is lured back to his home town by his father and brother to help them flush out the Russian Mafia, only to find that his own family is in on the take. Co-starring with actors, Sydney Penny, Tony Lo Bianco and Robert Stewart. The film was released to video by Aurora, under the Action Thriller category.

Greg has also finished an independent film called "Mel" co-staring with Ernest Borgnine and Julie Hagerty. The film has aired on HBO and is available through, North by Northwest Entertainment.

Evigan has produced and sang on his "pop" album, "Slow Down" featuring ten of his original songs now available to you through this web site.

He plays the piano, drums, and saxophone, and writes in a variety of different styles of music. He is now mixing a new CD, with more original pieces, recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London. The Modern Classical album features Evigan at the piano.

You can order Greg's first CD "Slow Down," by clicking here or on the CD icon on the left and sending a check or money order to the address listed. If you are using a credit card to order go to Amazon.com's "Slow Down" Purchase Page.

This time around, our celebration of the 50th anniversary ofDOCTOR WHO begins with a look at fandom – how it not only supported the series during those dark “wilderness” years but how it also helped bring your G2V hosts together and allowed them both to contribute professionally to the universe of our favorite TV series! Dan Persons says:

The comedy team of Etta Devine and Gabriel Diani already have a bit of notoriety attached to them: Their Kickstarter campaign for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Robotic Edition) — which proposed to publish an edition of the Mark Twain classic with all occurrences of the N-word replaced with the word “robot” — attracted no little attention and enough supporters to not only push them to their goal, but well beyond. With that success under their belt, they’ve embarked on a less unorthodox, but hopefully just as entertaining, Kickstarter campaign for a new end-of-the-world comedy, DIANI & DEVINE MEET THE APOCALYPSE. With a solid technical crew and a cast that includes DEEP SPACE NINE’s Armin Shimerman, BUFFY’s Harry Groener, and LEGEND OF KORRA’s Janet Varney, the project is already well-positioned to bring some mirth to unrestrained devastation, disease, and despair.

So since my sponsors for this ep are presently running a Kickstarter for their cool, RFID-blocking jacket, the Shield, and since I, myself, am running my own Kickstarter, I thought it would be worthwhile to reach out to Etta and Gabe to talk about the film, its inspirations and challenges, and also to get their thoughts on crowdfunding a creative project. As we’ve previously noted, in the sixties, the revolution wasn’t televised, and film wasn’t always an accurate conduit for measuring the temper of the times. BLACKENSTEIN was meant to ride the then-burgeoning wave of (duh) blaxsploitation films, reaching out to African-American audiences with a story that provided all the elements of popular cinema, yet spoke to their condition with characters who could navigate the dangerous streets of urban America and weren’t afraid of taking the struggle to the Man. Instead, what triple-threat producer/writer/special effects artist Frank R. Saletri delivered was a tale that had little to do with the classic story of the doctor who tampered in God’s domain, but was brimming with bad science, wooden acting, and exceedingly bizarre music cues. Oh, well; at least the camerawork is ambitious.

The Temple of Bad team of Andrea Lipinski, Kevin Lauderdale, Orenthal V. Hawkins, and Dan Persons tuck their afro-picks in their back pockets and sit down to discuss this wayward attempt to knock off Sam Arkoff’s more successful (and arguably better) BLACULA. Their take-away: Not even the funniest talking-dog joke in the world could save this weird, incoherent mess from being the sole credit for most its participants.

    Dan Persons says:

It's back to the border for John Sayles, who in films like LONE STAR has explored the distinctive tensions that brew in the towns that neighbor to Mexico. Now he's applying that worldview to the mystery thriller in GO FOR SISTERS, the story of a parole officer (LisaGay Hamilton) whose son may be in big trouble with human traffickers, and who, in order to track him down in Tijuana, recruits the help of a reformed drug addict (Yolanda Ross) and a not-so-reformed, and nearly blind, former LA cop (Edward James Olmos). Not exactly the kind of trip that they'll be tweeting snapshots from.

As expected, in our interview, Sayles demonstrates an intimate command of the issues that gives GO FOR SISTERS' thrills a real-world legitimacy. Meanwhile, Ross discusses what life is like on a Sayles indie project -- bottom line: look elsewhere for duplex dressing trailers. Click on the player to hear the show.

Presenting the Transcription Feature: The Mercury Theater on the Air - The War of the Worlds

The War of the Worlds is an episode of the American radio drama anthology series The Mercury Theatre on the Air. It was performed as a Halloween episode of the series on October 30, 1938, and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network. Directed and narrated by actor and future filmmaker Orson Welles, the episode was an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds(1898).

The first two thirds of the 62-minute broadcast were presented as a series of simulated news bulletins, which suggested to many listeners that an actual alien invasion by Martians was currently in progress. Compounding the issue was the fact that the Mercury Theatre on the Air was a sustaining show (it ran without commercial breaks), adding to the program's realism. Although there were sensationalist accounts in the press about a supposed panic in response to the broadcast, the precise extent of listener response has been debated.

In the days following the adaptation, however, there was widespread outrage and panic by certain listeners, who had believed the events described in the program were real. The program's news-bulletin format was described as cruelly deceptive by some newspapers and public figures, leading to an outcry against the perpetrators of the broadcast. Despite these complaints—or perhaps in part because of them—the episode secured Welles' fame as a dramatist.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the broadcast of this program, John shares the original broadcast as well as tells you about the BBC production of Independence Day UK, a tie-in audio drama to the blockbuster movie done in the style of The War of the World.  Check out Kevin Lauderdale's more detailed look at the original production on his It Has Come to My Attention.

King Boris' visit to the United States is interrupted by an exploding bouquet of flowers that hide a riddle inside, the calling card of the Riddler.  What is his scheme?  Can Batman and Robin figure it out before an international incident can occur?

The War of the Worlds is an episode of the American radio drama anthology series The Mercury Theatre on the Air. It was performed as a Halloween episode of the series on October 30, 1938, and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network. Directed and narrated by actor and future filmmaker Orson Welles, the episode was an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds (1898).

The first two thirds of the 60-minute broadcast were presented as a series of simulated news bulletins, which suggested to many listeners that an actual alien invasion by Martians was currently in progress.

Despite these complaints--or perhaps in part because of them--the episode secured Welles' fame as a dramatist.

Kevin Lauderdale returns with an all new episode.  There have been many other productions of Welles' infamous broadcast since then and Kevin wants to bring a few of them, including the Jeff Wayne musical, to your attention.

    Dan Persons says:

To list the films and filmmakers David V. Picker has been involved with in his careers as president of United Artists, Paramount, and Columbia borders on giving a comprehensive history of the medium in the latter half of the twentieth century. A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, PERSONA, THE JERK, MIDNIGHT COWBOY, TOM JONES, LAST TANGO IN PARIS, LENNY, the James Bond franchise; auteurs such as Ingmar Bergman, Bernardo Bertolucci, Mike Nichols, John Huston, Woody Allen, and on and on (and on) -- Picker, through a lifelong embrace of adventurous filmmaking, has had a hand in more than a few standout titles. (Also LEONARD PART 6 -- we're not dealing with gods here.)

Picker has now put his experience in the industry into handy print form in the new book, Musts, Maybes, and Nevers: A Book About the Movies, where he recalls his adventures, good and bad, getting classics and not-quite-classics to the screen, and provides numerous anecdotes of his encounters with the artists and insiders who made it happen. I was able to spend some time with Picker to talk about the industry as it was and as it is, and what it was like capturing all that on the page.

From there, the world changes.

In their second weekly episode in October to celebrate Halloween, Scott and Arnold take a fond look back at one of the greatest sustained periods of horror movie magic with a chat about the Universal Studios horror movies of the 1920s-1940s and the many monsters that populated their memorable pantheon.

To help them out, the guys welcome author Steven Warren Hill of the two-volume guide to classic horror cinema from 1920-1951, Silver Scream!

Steven Warren Hill, author of SILVER SCREAM

Steven Warren Hill, author of SILVER SCREAM

SPECIAL NOTE: We’d like to thank well-known Halloween music and gothic horror fantasy soundtrack composers and performers, Midnight Syndicate, for allowing us to incorporate music from their phenomenal new album that also pays tribute to the Universal legacy,Monsters of Legend.

Monsters_of_Legend_coverWe also want to draw your attention to the group’s new Kickstarter campaign to enable them to perform live; it has a goal of at least $40,000 by Sunday, November 10, 11:30pm EST. Check out the details here or via the banner link on the right on our site. Thanks again, guys!

TECHNICAL NOTE: We continue to work out the technical kinks, but this one is odd. This was our first three-way (please, don’t) conversation (recorded prior to our interview with Stephen Graves in the preceding “Satellite” episode), but not entirely for that reason, Scott’s audio fell about a second behind Arnold’s and Steve’s. This results in a weird recurring delay in which it seems that Arnold and Steve are stepping on Scott’s comments or leaving him as the last to react to something in the conversation, resulting in creepy delayed laughter from Scott. Trust us – the guys aren’t being rude to him, neither is Scott demonically possessed. Although we do think “Scott’s Laugh” may become a new CreepyPasta worthy of the SCP Foundation:

    SCP-3370: Scott's Laugh

    SCP-3370: Scott’s Laugh

    ITEM #: SCP-3370 – SCOTT’S LAUGH

    OBJECT CLASS: KETER

SPECIAL CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES: Since this is a sound – possibly independent of any actual recording technology or physical media – containment is a difficult if not impossible task, with the most effort concentrated instead on raising awareness and exercising extreme caution.

DESCRIPTION: This is the ghostly delayed laughter of G2V Podcast producer and co-host Scott Alan Woodard, who slipped out of phase one day and kept laughing out of sync with reality. Sometimes people say they can hear his laugh – always delayed by an awkward amount of time – on YouTube videos, their own iPhones, and even old CDs. Some even report continuing to hear the laugh long after they’ve shut off any recording or device, as if the sound has infected them or taken up residence inside their auditory canal. Others wake in the middle of the night to utter silence, but if they wait a moment…

    “HAHAHAHAHA!”

In all documented cases, the laugh causes dementia and eventually death.

    So enjoy the episode!

Most DOCTOR WHO fans know the tragic story of the “missing episodes” – individual installments and occasionally entire stories from the early days of the show, wiped or junked by the BBC sometimes only shortly after they were aired, never to be seen again. Most of the losses centered around the First Doctor (William Hartnell) and Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) eras, but as the decades have passed there have been a number of surprising and very welcome recoveries. Missing episodes have been found and returned to the BBC from all over the globe, and as of 2013 there were 106 episodes still missing…until now.

This October – and appropriately enough in the show’s 50th anniversary year – the largest haul of recovered episodes in the last 25 years or more has been announced: nine episodes that restore one Second Doctor story and nearly complete another.

Now available on iTunes as digital downloads (find the link below) and soon to appear on DVD at the end of this year and the beginning of 2014, the six-episode Second Doctor story “The Enemy of the World” is complete for the first time since its airing in 1967-1968, and the subsequent tale “The Web of Fear” is now lacking only its third episode. Both stories are treasures beyond imagining for fans to either revisit or see for the very first time.

Scott and Arnold are two of those fans, and they’re joined in this very special “Satellite” episode by Stephen Graves, online deputy editor of Stuff.tv and co-host of The Naked Scarf podcast. Stephen was fortunate enough to attend the BBC’s press conference on Thursday, October 10, 2013 that announced the recovery of the episodes and gave those in attendance the chance to watch two of them alongside stars Frazer Hines and Deborah Watling, who appear as the Doctor’s companions Jamie and Victoria in both adventures.

Join the guys as they celebrate the “new” episodes and speculate on what the future may hold for the ongoing “missing episode” hunt!

What if they declared a cultural revolution and nobody came? That's pretty much the situation with CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC, the movie that was supposed enshrine disco as the musical trend of the eighties and instead wound up being the genre's epitaph, not to mention destroying the careers of close to anyone involved with it. Purportedly a fictionalized version of the formation of the music group Village People -- if by fictionalized you mean completely divorced from reality and by music group you mean guys who can sing and dance while dressed up as Christopher Street stereotypes -- and an opening volley in the ongoing political actualization of the homosexual community, even if no one in the film can gather the nerve to utter the word "g*y," the film founders under the multiple curses of a director, Nancy "Ida Morgenstern" Walker, making her feature film debut despite the fact that she had never done a musical, stars -- including Steve Guttenberg, Valerie Perrine, and Bruce Jenner -- with no particular talent for singing or dancing, and a script -- for which producer Allan Carr took partial credit -- that barely knows the definition of the words "musical" and "comedy" individually, much less put together.

The film that Cinefantastique founder Fred Clarke called, “The CITIZEN KANE of horror,” is back, newly remastered and in an edition that its director has dubbed the “final cut.” In THE WICKER MAN, a devoutly religious Scottish policeman (Edward Woodward) travels to an island-bound agricultural community to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. What he finds is a society reverted back to its pagan traditions, a challenge to his faith via the island’s lord (Christopher Lee), temptation in the form Britt Ekland, and a mystery that suggests the missing child may have fallen victim to the island’s curdled superstitions.

Happy to commemorate the impending rediscovery of a horror classic, Cinefantastique Online’s Steve Biodrowski, Lawrence French, and Dan Persons welcome theofantastique.com’s John Morehead in a discussion that examines the film in the context of the time it was made, weighs its impact now, and explores the tortured distribution history that’s led to confusion about what cut could be deemed the official one. Not quite, Chuck-o — the studio is turning out an increasing variety of shows, including its most recent, FRIENDSHIP ALL-STARS OF FRIENDSHIP, a web series that tracks the genial relationships between such BFFs as John Lasseter and Luis Guzmán, and Batmen Michael Keaton and George Clooney.

Oh yeah, kid, you’ve got a bad case of sequelitis right there. Technically polished with occasional striking moments, INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 picks up the story of the Lambert family — Patrick Wilson as daddy Josh, Rose Byrne as mother Renai, plus kids including Ty Simpkins as the psychically tuned-in Dalton — immediately after their disastrous sojourn in the netherworld in the first film, and then pretty much repeats the beats with some painful expository writing  and awkward retconning to explain why the story didn’t just stop while it was ahead.

Cinefantastique Online’s Steve Biodrowski, Lawrence French, and Dan Persons have no shortage of opinions on how things went wrong (or in some cases, right) with INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, and sit down to talk about how supposedly scary spirits wind up looking silly instead, why it may not be a good idea to take inspiration for your Big Reveal from MOMMY DEAREST, and, once again, why the police in horror movies are so dumb.

After a summer hiatus, Cyborgs: A Bionic Podcast returns with all new episodes.  First up, John and Paul sit down for their next Case File.  They interview actor Rick Lenz (SMDM: "The Return of The Bionic Woman" and BW: "Welcome Home, Jaime", and "The Vega Influence") about his career and his memoir, North of Hollywood.

Comment on the episode here or write abionicpodcast@gmail.com or call 888-866-9010.

Hal Erickson of All Movie Guide says Rick Lenz “has steadfastly avoided pigeonholing as a ‘type,’ playing gunslingers, victims, villains, patient husbands, insensitive fools, intellectuals and even a wimpy murder-mystery fanatic in the (Hallmark) remake of Hitchcock’s Shadow Of A Doubt.”

One of the workingest actors of the late-20th century, Lenz has starred in movies with Peter Sellers, Walter Matthau, Lauren Bacall and Elizabeth Taylor. He was Goldie Hawn's boyfriend in Cactus Flower, Melvin's lawyer in Melvin And Howard and the obsequious journalist in John Wayne’s The Shootist.

On television, he has guest-starred in recurring roles on The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, Murder, She Wrote, The Practice, Dynasty and more. He was superspy Benjamin Baxter on Fox’s The New Adventures Of Beans Baxter, Eddie Albert’s law partner on a few episodes of Green Acres, and starred with Richard Boone as Police Chief Oliver Stamp on Hec Ramsey in the NBC Mystery Movie rotation.

On various stages, including Broadway, Lenz has starred opposite Jill Clayburgh, Marcia Mason, Tyne Daly, Blythe Danner, Alan Alda and Paul Sorvino. He jumped on the other side of theatrical production and became a successful playwright with his Off-Broadway production Swung in 1979. He followed with Clean As A Whistle (also Off-Broadway) and The Epic Of Buster Friend, which began at the American Shakespeare Theatre, moved to the Lucille Lortell Theatre and was subsequently produced by PBS. Furthermore, his play So Long, Mr. Broadway was published by Dramatists Play Service and West Coast Plays, and he won Los Angeles Dramalogue Awards for playwriting for both Familiar Places and Last Class. In 2002, Sharon Gless and the late John Ritter performed Lenz’ Felony Audition at the Playwright’s Kitchen Ensemble.

All of the actor/playwright’s experiences are recounted in his new gut-wrenchingly honest memoir North of Hollywood (Feb. 15, 2012, Chromodroid Press). The book is a start to his budding career as an author, planning also the debut of his first novel in 2013 called Redeeming Norma Jean.

Originally from Michigan and having acted across the country, Lenz lives in North Hollywood with his wife. They are parents to three children, and have recently become proud grandparents.

      Dan Persons says:

A guy who's been in every film from COOL HAND LUKE, REPO MAN, ALIEN and PARISTEXAS, and worked with everyone from John Huston, David Lynch, Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp has to have some stories to tell. And in HARRY DEAN STANTON: PARTLY FICTION, director Sophie Huber has found a way to get the famously reserved actor to reveal himself, through the medium of song. Both a career retrospect and an unusual performance film, PARTLY FICTION both follows Harry through his favorite haunts and in encounters with colleagues that include David Lynch, Kris Kristofferson, and Debbie Harry, and sits him down with a simple, guitar accompaniment to demonstrate his unique reads on such songs as Everybody's Talkin'.

The Joker "springs" himself from jail in time to exact revenge on the curators of a museum exhibit on comedy legends.  He's upset that he wasn't included in the exhibit.  But Batman's on the scene to stop him with the aid of his trusty utility belt.  The Joker swears never to fall for the gimmicks of the belt by fighting fire with fire and creating his own.  The belt proves to be a match for the Dynamic Duo as the city of Gotham begins to lose faith in them as they fall for the pranks from the Joker's utility belt.

Joining John for the first appearance of The Joker is Geek Radio Daily's Billy Flynn.

Somewhere in Riddick (Vin Diesel), the fugitive criminal with the crazy, glowing eyes that can see in the dark, exists a character engaging enough to build a film franchise around. Somewhere in RIDDICK, the third film featuring the antihero, is evidence of a wise move to put the guy into a tighter, more stripped-down scenario better suited to him than the bloated, Robert E. Howard pastiche that was THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK. Unfortunately, stranding Riddick on a hostile alien world and tasking him with the challenge of outwitting two teams of bounty hunters — headed up by Jordi Mollà and Matt Nable and including Katee Sackhoff  — for one of their spaceships hasn’t quite elevated this entry above the misconceptions of character and plotting that the first film, PITCH BLACK, neatly sidestepped.

Sponsor: Audible.com 30 Day Free Trial. Get yours today at Audible.com.

Cinefantastique Online’s Steve Biodrowski, Lawrence French, and Dan Persons differ in opinion on how seriously RIDDICK is undone by its flaws. In a lively conversation, they discuss writer/director David Twohy’s conception of the character, whether the mantle of Nietzschean superman rests comfortably on Riddick’s shoulders, and the difficulty in creating adversaries able to maintain their credibility while being outwitted by the protagonist. Most pressing, they also debate who in this scenario is the roadrunner, and who’s the coyote?

Then: Steve gives his impressions of the comedic horror film HELL BABY and a preliminary impression of DEAD BEFORE DAWN, and Dan provides a capsule review of the post-apocalyptic, comic book actioner, BOUNTY KILLER. Plus, what’s coming to theaters next week.

        Dan Persons says:

Name a genre, and John Badham can tell you tales about it. He mixed the musical with incisive social observation in SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER — arguably the only disco movie worthy of being watched as serious film — dealt in the worlds of speculative fiction with such cautionary tales as WARGAMES, and has notched his action creds with everything running from BLUE THUNDER all the way up to TV’s NIKITA. All through, he’s worked with stars ranging from John Travolta, Johnny Depp, Mel Gibson and Bridget Fonda. Bottom line: When the guy talks about the craft of filmmaking, you know it comes from experience.

Which is a good thing, because Badham has just released a new book, John Badham on Directing: Notes from the Sets of Saturday Night Fever, War Games, and More. In it, he draws on forty plus years in the industry to provide budding filmmakers with practical tips on working with actors, staging action scenes, and making sure that the film playing in their heads finds its way onto the screen as accurately as possible. At the same time, the book is so chock-full of anecdotes and insights — not just from Badham, but also from such colleagues as Steven Soderbergh and Oliver Stone — that even those not planning a career behind the lens will want to check it out for its compelling glimpse behind-the-scenes.

Barnaby was a comic strip which began 20 April 1942 in the newspaper PM. Created by Crockett Johnson, who is best known today for his children's book Harold and the Purple Crayon, the strip featured a cherubic-looking five-year-old and his far-from-cherubic fairy godfather, Jackeen J. O'Malley, a short, cigar-smoking man with four tiny wings. With a distinctive appearance because of its use of typography, the strip had numerous reprints and was adapted into a 1940s stage production.

Fantagraphics Publishing is releasing the first volume of collected strips and Kevin Lauderdale wants to bring this to your attention.  Kevin explains the strip and its distinctive style in this all new episode.
