Let’s start the new year off with some New Year’s-themed episodes. First off, the stars of “Fibber McGee and Molly” are thrilled to be invited to the New Year’s Eve dance at the highfalutin Wistful Vista Country Club. They’ll be mixing with “society so high your nose will bleed.” Then jump forward a couple of days to the first episode of “Information Please” from 1939. The panelists will be quizzed about the previous year’s events, and they’ll have to untangle a very tricky poem.

The TARDIS lands on an Earth vessel trapped in orbit about the Sense Sphere. The inhabitants are hesitant about discussing the Sensorites who are holding them in place and the Doctor and his companions quickly learn about the xenophobic aliens and their strange world. This is a story that John is of mixed feelings about. There is much to laud in the first half of the story, but the second half lets the story down. Take a listen and find out the good and the bad and where it plays out in the rankings. Current Rankings

On an brand new double-digest holiday edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the rebels are in charge as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story won the weekend in grand fashion. Disney and Lucasfilm face a Death Star-sized challenge as 2016 comes to a close as four major contenders arrive just in time for one of the top movie holidays. Can the rebels withstand firepower of that magnitude? In home entertainment, several late summer and early fall titles make their debut just in time for gift-giving, and they make the majority of the slate. Television takes a break, and horror takes over the high-def titles from the past. We wrap up the show with Denise and the Quick Flicks, and we wrap up the year with this final 2016 edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

All the hosts, current and former, have writing experience of some kind. They gather on a weekly basis to share stories of their individual journeys and discuss topics important to the world of writing. Occasional forays into the territories of brown dragons, taco eating cowboy space ninjas, or random discussions involving monkeys are all considered rumor at best and none of the hosts are willing to admit any of that actually happened.

After almost a year, John returns with his brief looks at the "classic" Doctor Who series. We pick things up with "The Aztecs", a fantastic first season story that asks the question most time travelers wonder, what would you change about the past if you could and would you be able? Barbara is given the opportunity when she is mistaken for an Aztec god. For her, it's the perfect opportunity to end some of the barbaric behavior of the Aztecs, but for others, it's an opportunity to jockey for power and in doing so, endangers the lives of the time travelers. Take a listen and let John know what you think. Current Rankings 1 - Marco Polo 2 - The Daleks 3 - The Aztecs 4 - An Unearthly Child 5 - Edge of Destruction 5 - The Keys of Marinus

For our second Christmas-themed episode this year, we move from Christmas into New Year’s. We start off with Eve Arden in “Our Miss Brooks.” It’s Christmas Eve, and Connie seems destined to spend it alone (if you don’t count her pathetic little Christmas tree), but what would a Christmas comedy be without a little miracle? Then it’s time to “Meet Me at Parky’s,” where that congenial Greek restaurateur, Parky himself, will spend the end of December looking for tickets to the New Year’s Day Rose Bowl game in Pasadena. If he can get any, that will be a miracle as well.

On an brand new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office picked up a December turkey as not even an Office Christmas Party could unseat Moana as the box office champ. This may be the last week on top for our animated heroine, but Disney's doing pretty well as they debut Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
In home entertainment, it's super-villains working off prison sentences, peculiar children with super powers, and a biblical epic to start things off. TV on DVD brings Star Trek, Korra, Dirk Gently, andt he slate belongs to the movies as six titles from 2016 make their premiere. Add them to a baby for Bridget Jones, a House of Lies, and another dose of the Walking Dead. Finally, Denise wraps things up with the Quick Flicks and we present you with a shiny new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an brand new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a terrible week to be a new release. Moana and Fantastic Beasts ruled the roost once again, and they have one more week to keep audiences entertained before the Death Star comes back to town. In the meantime, Miss Sloane and the Office Christmas Party will try their hardest to win hearts, minds, and cold hard cash. Do they have a chance against wizards, teenage heroes, and demigods?
Home entertainment gets busy as pets, super secret agents, cowboys, airline heroes, and storks make waves. Among these big name titles, however, is a touching documentary from a son to his late father, an idol from a science fiction legend. Television titles include irreverent animation, romance, a spinoff from a galaxy far away, and a high fantasy MTV project. It all rounds out with octane as Mad Max hits shelves in Black and Chrome fashion.
Finally, Denise brings it all to a close with a fitting and thematic review of a deeply inspirational film in the Quick Flicks. What better way to stay warm as December debuts than with your friends at The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

For our first Christmas-themed episode this year, we present the LUX RADIO THEATER adaptation of the Judy Garland classic, “Meet Me in St. Louis.” This one-hour version drops the character of Agnes, but retains, in the roles they originated in the 1944 film, Judy Garland and Margaret O’Brien as sisters Esther and Tootie Smith, as well as Tom Drake as The Boy Next Door, John Truett. And you get to hear Garland perform a few songs that have since become standards, “The Boy Next Door,” “The Trolley Song,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

Shazam! "Double Trouble"September 27, 1975
Billy and Mentor are shocked to learn that Captain Marvel is accused of robbing a gas station. Billy's first instinct is to investigate the matter, but he turns himself in as Captain Marvel in order to prove a point to a young boy about the idea that no one is above the law. But if Captain Marvel is in jail, who is going to prove his innocence? John and Richard are both in agreement that this is one of the best episodes in the entire series. We learn though it's one that Jackson Bostwick suggested as an idea for the show and it allows Captain Marvel a lot more dialogue and screen time. The two discuss the potential of the episode, the importance of the moral today in a world where many feel they are above the law, and the number of known actors who appeared in this episode. It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode. Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com. Moral: “Respecting the law is just another way of saying that we respect each other. Laws have been made for the good of everyone, and when someone breaks the law, they're saying "I don't care about you." When you respect the law, you respect yourself."

On an brand new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office shrugged off a turkey coma as Moana unseats Fantastic Beasts as the box office champ. Unfortunately, that luck didn't spread far among the new releases. The good news is that they have a chance to remain in the running since this week brings only one contender to the table.
In home entertainment, the slate belongs to the movies as six titles from 2016 make their premiere. Add them to a baby for Bridget Jones, a House of Lies, and a game of Finders Keepers to put the finishing touches on the plate. "The Londinium Larcenies/The Foggiest Notion/The Bloody Tower" Aired November 23/30 and December 6, 1967 Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Commissioner Gordon travel to Londinium at the request of the President to help Venerable Ireland Yard with a series of bizarre thefts throughout the city. Batman quickly realizes that the evidence points to Lord Marmaduke Ffogg and Lady Penelope Peasoup and her finishing school for girls. Once again, we are faced with a three-part story so big, it needs three guests hosts to cover every detail. Jim Beard of Gotham City 14 Miles travels with John overseas to discuss the episode with Andrew Leyland of the HeyKids Comics Podcast and photographer and Batman 66 board moderator Ben Bentley. We know we like it, but why? It's a mess of a story and there are a number of missed opportunities. And does Batgirl really play a part in this story? It's all here on a double-sized episode. Isis "Spots of the Leopard"September 20, 1975
Jenny's father Chuck has returned after a stay in prison for theft and wants to start his life over. A series of thefts of industrial diamonds has a similar MO to Chuck's leading to almost everyone to believe, including Jenny, that Chuck may be guilty. Everyone, except Andrea. Can she prove this to Jenny before it's too late?
John and Richard are impressed with this episode, which they feel has more depth than a usual episode of either series. They go on to discuss how Isis feels like it learned from the mistakes of the first season of Shazam! while Shazam! continues to produce the same kind of stories as before. Finally, they make the comparison of these two shows with Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode. Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.
Moral: "Today we learned the importance of keeping faith in a friend or someone you love even if it seems they’ve done something wrong. If they have, it will come out soon enough. If they haven’t, they need someone who will believe in them when others won’t. That’s what being a true friend really means." For Thanksgiving, we present two Turkey Day-themed comedies. First up, on “The Jack Benny Show,” Mary reads a poem she wrote just for 1939. From 1939 to 1941, Thanksgiving was celebrated not on the fourth Thursday of the month, but the third. Then Jack wonders what’s going on when the turkey he bought lays an egg as big as a cantaloupe. “The Great Gildersleeve” was always filled with topical laughs. As Thanksgiving approaches, Gildy hopes to get a coveted “B Ration” gas card, nephew Leroy has to perform in the school Thanksgiving play, and it becomes harder and harder to actually find a turkey.

On an all-new Double Digest edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office remains strange as the good doctor fends off aliens, angry offspring, and a mid-November horror flick. This week sees one brand of magic facing off against another as Doctor Strange defends his title against the first Harry Potter spinoff in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And if that's not enough magic, Moana joins that fray in two weeks. Welcome to the November blockbuster season. In home entertainment, a fish finds home in Finding Dory and Star Wars takes another chunk out of everyone's budgets. In the "One of These Things is Not Like the Other" Department, the Suicide Squad, Jason Bourne, and The Secret Life of Pets make their digital debuts. On television, we welcome the drama of Westeros, an animated Trek, and another entry from MST3K. Finally, two classics debut in HD as the Looney Tunes crew plays basketball and the Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller does what Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers do best. Is that all? Of course not. What kind of bountiful feast for the ears would this be without Denise and the Quick Flicks? All of this in a double episode for the debut of the holiday season on The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office goes strange as the Doctor Strange takes the top spot. On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, November debuts with a repeat winner as Boo! A Madea Halloween fends off a tepid performance by Inferno. Robert Langdon's disappointing debut will likely result in a rapid decline as Marvel returns to the stage with Doctor Strange. In home entertainment, we boldy go with Star Trek Beyond, Bad Moms, and the Return of the Caped Crusaders. NOTE: With apologies to Michael and Denise, here is a much delayed episode of The Weekly Podioplex.
On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it's the last show of the month, and a surprising (yet fitting) champion has emerged with Boo! A Madea Halloween. It's not certain how long Madea will hold the crown since Jack Reacher wasn't far behind, and there's a conspiracy on the horizon with Robert Langdon and his adventures in Inferno.
In home entertainment, we go on a Hunt for the Wilderpeople, find Dory on digital, race Nash Bridges on the television front, and head off to Neverland in a hi-def look back to 1991. It's a short slate, but it ends in top fashion as Denise brings you the news in the Quick Flicks, putting the wrap on this installment of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

With the World Series almost upon us, we thought we’d give you a tale of baseball that culminates at the World Series. “The Lux Radio Theater” brought listeners abridged versions of popular films of the day. This time it’s “It Happens Every Spring,” with Ray Miland reprising the role he created in the 1949 film of the same name. Miland plays a mild-mannered college professor who stumbles up on wood repellent. When secretly applied to baseballs, it makes him a pitcher that no one can hit. Play ball! On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, we're haunting the station as The Girl on the Train arrives on time despite a poor reception, solidly beating the rest of the newcomers. She faces some steep competition from The Accountant, Max Steel, and Kevin Hart and we enter the middle of the month. In home entertainment, the Ghostbusters and Krampus take advantage of the season in a bid for your shelves, along with the Ice Age crew and Tarzan. If digital is more your speed, Batman and Robin dust off the cowl and tights for another amazing adventure. Meanwhile, TV on DVD goes retro with a handful of blasts from the past to accompany Hannibal, Mike & Molly, and The Good Witch. To wrap things up, a Stephen King classic brings the scares from the past on Blu-Ray. Finally, Denise wraps things up with the Quick Flicks, putting the stake in this installment of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, there can only be seven as the remake of the classic Magnificent Seven rustles up box office gold. Quick on their heels is a special delivery from Storks, and the match is set for this week's winners and the newcomers, Miss Peregrine, Deepwater Horizon, and some Masterminds. It's a regular showdown in September.
Moving to home entertainment, quite a few lower end summer performers are coming to disc, and digital video showcases a preview of coming attractions with Ghostbusters and Independence Day: Resurgence. TV on DVD comes to the table with Grimm, Reign, and Ripper Street, and the classics on Blu-Ray proclaim that there can only be one. Not seven, but one, as Highlander reaches its thirtieth anniversary.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Sully's still strong as the newbies all fall short. The next group of contenders for the crown are magnificent, including Storks and the remake of the Magnificent Seven. Can an animated comedy or a western succeed where the Blair Witch, Bridget Jones, and Snowden could not?
Moving to home entertainment, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back, as are the Neighbors and the Free State of Jones. Digital video brings the Purge and a new look at the legend of Tarzan, and television rings up an idiosyncratic mystery tale in Twin Peaks. "Surf''s Up, Joker's Under" Aired November 16, 1967
The Joker plans to become king of the surf by winning the championships at Gotham Point. Didn't know he could surf, did you? Well he can, thanks to the reverseramator, he's been able to steal the surfing ability of champion surfer Skip Parker. It's all part of Joker's scheme to control the minds of the surfing community and in time, the world. We've seen a similar theme this season with the Riddler, the Penguin, and even Louie the Lilac and this one is the most outlandish - but it works.
Joining John to discuss this episode is Dan Greenfield, creator and author of the 13th Dimension website. In fact, Dan will argue that this may be one of the best episodes, not only of the third season, but of the entire series itself. Take a listen and let us know what you think. "Charlie X" The Enterprise takes on the lone survivor of a crashed transport ship. The young teen struggles with being among so many people and learning how to behave. But he is struggling with something else as well, something that could threaten all of humanity if he's not stopped. John and Krissy have a great deal to say about this episode, one they feel would have made a better first episode to premiere the series as it has the action and yet the intellectual beats we expect in an episode of Star Trek. Do you agree with our assessment? Leave your thoughts on the episode here.

"The Man Trap" September 8, 1966 50 years ago on this date, Star Trek premiered on the NBC Network. Most people know the story of the struggle the show went through to stay on the air, the letter-writing campaigns that were mounted in an effort to save the show from cancellation. It only lasted three seasons, but it lived on with the fans through syndicated television. From there, the show spawned numerous spin-off television shows and theatrical movies. As Star Trek moves into a new generation with a recently released movie and a new television series set to bow in January 2017, John felt it was the time to take a moment a discuss each episode on the 50th anniversary of its airing. Joining John to discuss the series is "the next generation" of fandom, Krissy Myers. Together, they will take a brief look at each episode and offer their immediate reactions to watching each either for the first time, as in Krissy's case, or after numerous viewings, as in John's case. First up is the very first episode, "The Man Trap". The two talk about how Canada was cheated in getting the credit for the actual 50th anniversary of the premiere of the series, how the televised episode differs from earlier drafts (based on John's readings of James Blish's adaptation), and how this felt more like an episode of Lost in Space and not Star Trek. Take a listen and join in the conversation, letting us know what you think here or over on our Facebook page.

We think of Ray Bradbury as a fantasist or a science fiction writer. But he was equally adept at crime drama. One of his first sales was “Killer Come Back to Me” to Detective Tales in July of 1944. Less than two years later, it was adapted for the radio by the “Molle Mystery Theatre.” This hard-boiled noir tale of killers, dames, and stolen identities takes a number of clever twists and turns. But does crime ever pay? Then on “Meet Me At Parky’s,” everyone’s favorite Greek restauranteur decides to help out with a teacher shortage. He may be known for his malapropisms in English, but if he’s going to teach his native Greek nothing could possibly go wrong, right?

It's the Labor Day weekend in America and everyone's away for the last hurrah of summer. In Atlanta, DragonCon is in full swing and John nor Keith could be there. Keith couldn't be with us on the podcast either, but John worked out a way for him to be on anyway. Here are two panels from last year's DragonCon featuring Keith. 3:20: Klingon History - Keith's The Klingon Art of War had recently been published and Keith had written an extensive amount Trek literature featuring the Klingons so it made perfect sense to include him in this panel. Panelists include Erika Yvette Figueroa and Morgan Skye. 1:00:00 - Keith's , Bone Key, and Heart of the Dragon, are favorites among the 1:00:00 - Keith's Supernatural novels Nevermore, Bone Key, and Heart of the Dragon, are favorites among the Supernatural fans. In this panel, he and others discuss the themes of the hit CW series. Panelsists include Maureen Gallagher, Father Brian Small, and Beth Dolgner.

Isis "Fool's Dare"September 13, 1975
Cindy Lee takes a dare to spend time in an abandoned junkyard. But she's unaware of the danger that lies within. And how is the junkyard connected to a car theft ring? And why doesn't Andrea simply turn to Isis for help when her car is stolen? These questions and more will be discussed on a new episode of the podcast. John and Richard wind up being split on how they feel about this episode. It's good, but is it as good as one of them feels? Also, what were the producers thinking when they dressed Cindy Lee in the more child-like clothing? And just how cool is Tut? Take a listen and let us know what you think. It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode. Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com. Moral: "When someone dares you to do something, it's often either something dangerous or wrong to for some other reason. So the question isn't whether you have the guts to do it or not, the question is do you have the nerve enough not to take the dare? Doing anything that you know is wrong is dumb, because you're the one who pays for it."

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the bad guys kept the newbies at bay, but the Sausage Party and Pete's Dragon still performed well in their opening frames. Their days may be numbered as a sword-and-sandals epic gets a modern remake this week, and one has to wonder if Harley Quinn and the Suicide Squad withstand Ben-Hur?
This week also welcomes Denise Lhamon to The Chronic Rift family as joins the show and ushers in the return of the Quick Flicks. "Louie the Lilac" Aired: October 26, 1967 Louie the Lilac wants to corner the flower market of Gotham City with the reasoning that if he does that, he can control the world. It sounds like something similar to what Riddler and Penguin came up with a few weeks ago, but in watching the episode, one finds it kind of makes sense this time. Also, John has stated he's not a fan of Milton Berle, but in discussing this episode, you'll see he actually appreciates Berle in the role of Louie. So what is wrong with this episode? Joining John to discuss the good and the bad of this story is author Jay Smith. Comment on the episode here or write thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.
Jay Smith is the creator and executive producer for the Parsec Award-winning audio drama series HG World. Since 2009, Jay and his company of players and producers have been telling the story of survivors in the middle of a global zombie uprising. Now in its third season, this "satellite" production has featured dozens of actors across four continents making it a production truly on a global scale. Since its debut, episodes of HG World and its spin-off series, the Parsec finalist The Diary of Jill Woodbine and The Googies have been downloaded close to a million times. Inspired by the golden age of radio, Hidden Harbor Mysteries presents a story inspired by stylish pulp era radio adventures like The Shadow, Sam Spade, The Green Hornet, and I Love a Mystery. Performed by a stellar cast, Hidden Harbor hopes to integrate classic radio storytelling with some modern twists. Jay draws from the work of Orson Welles, Arch Obelor and looks to modern audio dramatists like Douglas Adams and Dirk Maggs as inspiration to create a rich, realistic world of survival horror laced with dark comedy and compelling human drama. Jay holds a BA in Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University and is working on his Master of Fine Arts from Seton Hill University’s innovative Writing Popular Fiction program. He attends and speaks at various science fiction and literary conventions about podcasting, writing, audio drama, and zombies. HG World can be heard by subscribing through iTunes or visiting the show web site www.goodmorningsurvivors.com.

We start with another thrilling science fiction tale adapted for radio on “X-Minus One”: “A Logic Named Joe,” based on the short story by Murray Leinster that first appeared in “Astounding Science Fiction” in March of 1946. Fifty years before the internet, Leinster’s story predicted the use of household computers (“logics”) and the dangers and privacy concerns that would arise once they were networked together. Then the quips never stop when the one, the only Groucho Marx hosts “You Bet Your Life.” A train conductor and a longshoreman, then a diamond merchant and a dime-store saleswoman provide fodder for a flood of one-liners and snappy ad-libs from the funniest man on radio.

Shazam! "Debbie"September 13, 1975
Debbie is a girl who finds herself attracted to wrong people, despite her mother's warnings. When she finds herself getting in too deep and her life in danger, can Captain Marvel save her in time? Also, what happened to Captain Marvel?
On our last Shazam! review, we pointed out how the show did nothing new or innovative with the premiere of the second season. It all seemed like business as usual. Be careful what you wish for. As the credits to this second episode begin, one can see there is clearly someone new in terms of who is wearing the big red suit. John Davey takes over the role of Captain Marvel. Hosts John and Richard discuss Davey's first outing and draw their own comparisons, from childhood and today, to the portrayals of the two actors in the series.
It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode. Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.
Moral: "When a parent sets rules and regulations, it really is a form of expression of their love and concern. Sometimes the hardest thing for them to say is "no." But we can be sure that if they say "no", that most of the time there's a good reason for it."

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Jason Bourne took down the Enterprise as Matt Damon ends his nine year hiatus from the role with a bang. Kirk and crew held off the Bad Moms and the nerve-wracking stunts of Nerve, but this week's good guys may have a tough time against next week's bad guys as the Suicide Squad explodes into theaters.
On the home entertainment front, a handful of big name comedies join The Killing Joke on disc, and The Huntsman brings the Winter's War to digital. TV on DVD is spy drama with Blindspot and The Blacklist, and the sinking of the most famous unsinkable ship comes forward on Blu-Ray. John is joined by Dan Greenfield of 13th Dimension to talk with comic artist Michael Allred. Allred recently completed his run as cover artist for the Batman 66 comic series. In this interview, he discusses how Batman and 60s television influenced his artistic endeavors, how he approached the assignment of cover artist, favorite cover assignments, and working with his family in the comics field. Take a listen and enjoy.
So it should come as no surprise that he keeps a hand in film and music (He's the lead singer and guitarist for The Gear), but comic books have always been a seminal source of joy for Mike and that joy remains the main ingredient in most of his work.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Star Trek warps into number one on a profitable weekend, defeating the pets, the Ice Age, and scares in the dark. The Enterprise (or what's left of her) has star power, but so does super-agent Jason Bourne, who makes his return to theaters after a while off. Can Kirk defeat Bourne, or will the Enterprise crash and burn?
On the home entertainment front, The Boss and Hardcore Henry make their disc debuts, and the Joker takes a dark swing at the Caped Crusader as The Killing Joke comes to digital. We also get another movie marathon on the Satellite of Love, a new Criterion release, and a brief look at the month of August as we wrap up a new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, only on The Chronic Rift Network.

It’s summer time, so I’m giving you a bunch of summer-themed shows. First off, Eve Arden returns as everyone’s favorite sardonic English teacher, Our Miss Brooks. She’s on her summer vacation, but just can’t seem to connect with her would-be paramour, science teacher, Mr. Boyton. Then two episodes of the slice-of-life dramedy, Vic and Sade. First, with only six months until Christmas, everyone is trying to sell holiday cards. Then the family joins in on a simple study of the minutiae of life, discussing everything from sweaters to hail to bacon sandwiches.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, we celebrate a fifth merry un-birthday for the show since we missed the actual date last month. In lieu of wood or silverware, we'll take the Ghostbusters, which couldn't overcome The Secret Life of Pets, but did well with a new record and positive reactions. Of course, Captain Kirk and the Enterprise are bearing down as Star Trek Beyond hits theaters this week, leaving us to wonder how well two franchise sequels will do head to head.
On the home entertainment front, two other goliaths clash as Batman and Superman bring the Dawn of Justice, Back to the Future and Ghostbusters both get new documentaries, and TV on DVD gets post-apocalyptic with The 100, a whole lot of Tatiana Maslanys with Orphan Black, and a Person of Interest boxset for spice. Wrap it up with a look back at the 1920s as The Daughter of Dawn comes to Blu-Ray, and you have a new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, only on The Chronic Rift Network.

After a three-week break, The Weekly Podioplex is back! On an all-new edition, Dory is still swimming strong after four weeks, but she couldn't outrun the Secret Life of Pets. The pets have spooky competition the week as the controversial Ghostbusters reboot is ready to take the stage. Can the thirty-year old brand overcome the grumpy fans and prove that it's the one to call?
On the home entertainment front, The Divergent Series: Allegiant and Green Room dominate the movies while iZombie and Slasher make their way to TV on DVD. To top it all off, Universal refreshes things with pop art Blu-Rays from the Past as a new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, only available on The Chronic Rift Network, floods into your earbuds.

Isis "The Lights of MysteryMountain"September 6, 1975
We begin our reviews of The Secrets of Isis with this episode. Cindy Lee reports of the strange lights in the skies over Mystery Mountain. Is it possible that an alien invasion is coming? There are those missing people to account for. And what happens when Cindy Lee herself disappears?
John and Richard discuss the the poor transformation sequence, the lack of stunts, and the odd plot choices in this opening story. Despite all this, they also both agree that this is a much better beginning episode for a series than Shazam! got.
It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode. Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.
Moral: "Practical jokes can be taken too far."

Thanks to Kliph Nesteroff’s brilliant new book, “The Comedians: Drunks, Thieves, Scoundrels, and the History of American Comedy” for making me aware of a comedian and an OTR show I had never heard of before. Harry Einstein, who is the father of comedians Albert Brooks and Bob Einstein (a.k.a. Super Dave Osborne) had a successful career in the 1940s and ‘50s working under the persona of Parkyakarkus – “Parky” for short. The conceit was that Parky was a malapropism-prone Greek restaurant owner in Hollywood. Parky appeared on the Eddie Cantor and Al Jolson shows, and then, from June of 1945 to July of 1948, on his own show, “Meet Me At Parky’s.” “Jeff Regan, Investigator” was one the many shows that Jack Webb had a hand in. When he left to create “Dragnet,” it went off the air. But it was resurrected a year later starring Frank Graham. Not quite a comedy, but not too hard-boiled either, “Jeff Regan, Investigator” deftly balances the light and dark sides of P.I.s from the Golden Age of Radio.
Episodes Meet Me At Parky’s “The New Landlady” June 17, 1945 4:15

On an all-new triple feature edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a good week to be lost under the sea as Finding Dory found box office gold and a slew of new records. The forgetful blue tang faces some steep competition over the next three weeks as your podcast host takes a vacation, including Independence Day: Resurgence, The BFG, and The Secret Life of Pets. Can Dory withstand box office fire of that magnitude?

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a good week to be a newcomer as bank heists, orcs, and supernatural terror won the weekend. Also, adding credence to what has been a bad punchline for a long time, so did China as they continue on course to become the world's largest movie market. To combat the specters this week, Disney is taking another adventure with a forgetful fish in Finding Dory. It will likely perform well, but will it overcome the curse of lackluster sequels in 2016? On the home entertainment front, we visit 10 Cloverfield Lane, watch London fall, and welcome home old friends with Star Trek, the X-Files, and Dark Shadows. Wrap it all up with a look at next month's cinematic offerings, and you have a new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, only on The Chronic Rift Network. Weekly Podioplex Notes for June 14, 2016

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the Apocalypse was almost averted by the heroes on the half-shell, but it's mixed news for the studio. Both sets of comic book heroes could see a challenge with the Now You See Me sequel, the premiere of Warcraft, and another visit to the horrors of The Conjuring. Will they be enough to jump start the flagging summer season? On the home theater front, it's a list of big hitters, including Disney's Zootopia, Michael Bay, and George Clooney. TV takes a Quantum Leap this week, and a Star Trek blockbuster goes Blu with a director's cut. What more could you want? It's a new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, only on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the Apocalypse has arrived, but it's certainly not the big Memorial Day winner that everyone had hoped. In fact, even with a new milestone under their ears, Disney couldn't save the holiday from a soft start to the summer season. Hoping to take advantage of that performance is a set of lean green pizza-eating ninja heroes on the half shell, but can their zany antics dethrone the X-Men? On the home theater front, it's CG gods versus Jane Austen and the undead, with an inspirational Olympic biodrama to run circles around both. Add a little discussion to dismiss some fear-mongering, and you have a new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, only on The Chronic Rift Network.

King Tut is back in Gotham City with a new set of predictions that includes the identity of Batman. But just what is the purpose of all these predictions? Tut doesn't seem interested in gaining control of Gotham City as his new kingdom. He's more interested in gaining control of the universe and his scheme will ensure this happens. And where is Batgirl in all this? Joining John to discuss this episode, one of the better of the third season and a fitting continuation of the Tut storyline, is Shazam/Isis Podcast host Richard F. Lee.

The United States was only a couple months into World War Two when tonight’s episode of the classic comedy “The Great Gildersleeve” takes place. In an effort to raise money for war-time relief, Gildy gets dragged into posing as a (female – what else?) fortune teller. Despite the standard sit-com set-up, this takes some very funny twists and turns. Then Orson Welles returns as Harry Lime in “The Lives of Harry Lime.” Not quite the psychopathic murderer he was in the movie “The Third Man,” where he originated the role, here Welles’ Lime is more a charming, ne’er-do-well con man. Tonight, has he met his match in a pair of similarly-charming con artists?

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, #TeamCap and #TeamIronMan joined forces with the denizens of The Jungle Book to maintain the Disney domination on the box office, including another milestone for the Marvel team. This week's competition involve some upset fowl with a porcine grudge and a slingshot, another comedic look at collegiate life, and a 1970s detective procedural. Do they have a chance at stopping the march of Mouse House?
Add in dirty old men and witches on disk, a biopic and a CG fantasy adventure on streaming, and the complete adventures of a fan-favorite warrior princess on TV, and you have a new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, only on The Chronic Rift Network.

The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman were two of the most influential television programs of the 70's. During the height of their popularity, Steve Austin (Lee Majors) and Jaime Sommers (Lindsay Wagner) would battle Fembots, Bigfoot, Venus Death Probes, deadly duplicates, foreign spies, and bitter cold to protect the United States' interests through the O.S.I. Every other Sunday, hosts John S. Drew and Paul K. Bisson talk about one episode from either series in depth with another fan of the series. The podcast looks at the episodes, the pilot movies, and the reunion movies covering them from synopsis to review to a look at the mythology of both series.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, #TeamCap and #TeamIronMan tore up the box office as Captain America: Civil War broke records worldwide for Disney and Marvel. With little competition this week combined with critical and audience acclaim, the storm will likely continue for another weekend. But the Marvel influence doesn't stop there as the Deadpool, the Merc with a Mouth, brings home the chimichangas on DVD and Blu-Ray this week. Add a side of classic television for your home cinema, a dash of undead Jane Austen for on demand streaming, and a little extra spice for flavor, and you have a new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, only on The Chronic Rift Network.

Shazam! "On Winning"September 6, 1975
The second season of Shazam! begins and it looks like business as usual. In fact, that's the problem here, for a season premiere of a hot Saturday morning television show, the opening of its second season is somewhat lackluster. Two brothers are vying for their father's attention and the younger of the two feels left out. But he soon learns that his father loves him enough to risk his life for him.
The second season of Shazam! begins and while there are many changes in store for the coming season, this first episode doesn't seem to demonstrate it. John and Richard discuss how what is right with a usual episode of Shazam! is what is wrong with this season opener. Plus, they discuss how the Elders flashbacks that Billy has during the course of the episode are not neccessary and won't be missed on Isis.
It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode. Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.
Moral: "Winning isn't the important thing. What is important, is to do the very best you can. And a parent's love is a very special kind of love, its so big, that no matter how many brothers or sisters you have, there's more than enough love for everyone."
Guest Cast Stephen R. Hudis as Dan John Lupton as Craig Enright Eric Shea as Corky

It may have some help with Disney's magic and the retelling of one of their classics.
