Presenting the Transcription Feature: THE PEPSODENT SHOW STARRING BOB HOPE and THE SCREEN GUILD THEATER
(RIGHT CLICK THE IMAGE TO SAVE THIS EPISODE TO YOUR COMPUTER) Bob Hope starred in every form of Twentieth Century entertainment – from vaudeville to radio to movies to television. In this episode of The Bob Hope Show (for Pepsodent) we get a visit from baseball great Dizzy Dean and a performance of the kooky novelty tune “Alexander is a Swoose.” Then the Screen Guild Theater presents an adaptation of Ramona – the 1936 film, which was based on the famed pageant, which is, in turn, based on the 1884 novel by Helen Hunt Jackson. One of the founding myths of Old California, it tells the romantic but ultimately tragic tale of a half-Native American girl who gives up life on the rancho to marry a fellow Indian. Kellie is a high school student who does well in class and wants to be a member of the boys Varsity track team. She's got opposition from several corners, some who are willing to go to almost any lengths to make sure she doesn't realize her dream. Can Captain Marvel get Kellie to the tryouts on time after she's been accused of cheating on a test? After the dark themes of the previous two episodes, John and Richard tackle the ideas of equality and realizing your dreams in "The Athlete". Is this a tale that still needs to be told today? What is it about the "utterance of a single word" that lends such credibility to the show? Would this story need to be altered as we've discussed with previous stories in order to work for a modern audience? Are the stunts seen in this episode the best in the entire series? It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode.
Moral “Everyone should be given a chance to prove his or her abilities."
Guest Cast William Kirby Cullen as Tommy Marcia Mae Jones as Mrs. McGill Stephen Liss as Bob Butch Patrick as Jack Stephanie Steel as Kellie RATING

Here's how Tim describes this episode: "As a lifelong wrestling fan, I’m thrilled to welcome third generation pro wrestler Chavo Guerrero to the Express. In 2014, Chavo became involved in an innovative new program, Lucha Underground which combines Lucha Libre with Grindhouse Cinema. Made by Mark Burnett Productions, airing on Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network and importing Luchadors from Mexico’s premiere Lucha League, AAA, Lucha Underground brings all those worlds together to make a hybrid wrestling show never seen before. Chavo Guerrero tells us he came to be involved in Lucha Underground not only as a wrestler but as a producer, helping to design wrestling matches for television. We also talk in-depth about why screenwriters should study the storytelling techniques of pro wrestling. And also, Chavo tells us how his wrestling career prepared him for his recent ventures in action films. A fun listen for wrestling fans & TV buffs alike. Enjoy."

The good often travels along with the bad. The good in this case: Yours truly has made the move to the lovely city of Philadelphia, a process that led to the extended delay of this episode. The bad: the film we’re discussing, of course. The SF-comedy Invasion of the Star Creatures tries to mimic the slapped-together-fast-n-cheap success of Little Shop of Horrors — with Horrors star Jonathan Haze stepping into the role of screenwriter — but pretty much blows everything it attempts, most prominently any attempt at humor (unless you think grievously stereotyped Native Americans and a subterranean rewrite of an old Scooby-Doo chase gag repeated ad nauseum are downright high-larious). Come join Andrea Lipinski, Kevin Lauderdale, Orenthal V. Hawkins, and myself, Dan Persons, as we explore why, if the alien invasion does come, we’re hoping it’s the face-huggers that get to us first. NEXT EPISODE: We go into space to endure the terrors, and the bad acting, of Journey to the Seventh Planet. Comment on the episode here or write dan@mightymoviepodcast.com or call 888-866-9010.
