Well, it had to happen - the first story to be a disappointment and find its way to the bottom of the ranking list. "The Keys of Marinus" is another ambitious story filled with mutiple characters and multiple locations, just as with the previous story, "Marco Polo". Unlike the previous story, this one is complete for one to view - and that might not be a good thing. John talks about the weaknesses in "The Keys of Marinus" that includes the introduction of the trope that Doctor Who doesn't do very well - the mini-adventures within a larger quest story arc.
Current Rankings
1 - Marco Polo
2 - The Daleks
3 - An Unearthly Child
4 - Edge of Destruction
5 - The Keys of Marinus

During Christmas vacation the sardonic English teacher has plans to exchange the dreadful presents she received for something a little more useful. And so does everyone else. Interview: David Nykl
Nykl was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, to a nurse mother and a structural engineer father. After the Soviet invasion in 1968, he and his family left then-Communist Czechoslovakia for Canada. Upon arriving at Victoria, British Columbia. Nykl attended the University of British Columbia, where he majored in liberal arts.
Nykl has appeared heavily in Vancouver and Prague in dozens of theater, film and television productions. Known for his versatility and depth as an actor, he has also produced theatre and film projects, and in 1994, he co-founded Prague’s Misery Loves Company Theatre with Richard Toth and Ewan McLaren.
He is known to science fiction fans as the recurring Stargate Atlantis character of Dr. Radek Zelenka, a Czech scientist on Earth’s expedition to the “lost city” of Atlantis. His character often provides a foil to the main scientists, who forget the limits of their situation.
He is fluent in Czech, English, French and Spanish. Though his character on Stargate Atlantis speaks English with a Czechaccent, Nykl normally speaks with a Canadian accent. Whenever Zelenka spoke Czech in Stargate Atlantis, Nykl was given the lines in English, and he translated them.

Was it any surprise that Star Wars: The Force Awakens did as well as it did at the box office this past weekend? And it certainly looks to hold that spot this weekend despite there being four new movie releases to challenge it. Just how far can this movie got when it appears to be so universally accepted as a proper sequel to the original Star Wars trilogy? Michael Falkner has all this, some DVD releases, and a look at January movies that could challenge The Force Awakens on a new Weekly Podioplex.

Taking a break from the screenwriting world for a second to talk about an important and all-too common issue. The holiday season is for some the most joyful, fun and carefree time of year. For others, the holiday season can be a genuine struggle with depression, addiction and suicidal tendencies. The battle for mental health is one of the biggest and most important challenges of anyone’s life. Yet far too often we feel helpless to fight our own demons or don’t know how to help loved ones with their torment. I’m joined by Elizabeth Lombino. In addition to being my friend for 30 plus years, Elizabeth is a licensed clinical social worker and writer on the subject of depression. In this interview, she goes over some of the why’s and how’s of why the holidays can be so hard. We also talk about real, practical ways one can help themselves and how you can you help others. There’s no clear cut answer to these very real dangers people struggle with – but there are ways to help. I hope this insightful interview offers some light in the storm to those who may need it: For those who need who help or want to help those in danger of suicide, don’t hesitate call this number: 1-800-273-TALK: For more on the suicide prevention hotline: http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ For more on Elizabeth and her writings: Elizabeth’s Suicide Is Not A Choice piece: http://elizabethlombino.com/2014/08/12/suicide-is-not-a-choice/ My own thoughts on mental illness and suicide:

The Doctor and his companions wind up at the top of the Himalayas, "The Roof of the World", where they discover the TARDIS has lost all power. They are saved from a frozen death by traveller Marco Polo and his caravan. He is intrigued though by the Doctor's caravan, the TARDIS, and seizes it in the name of Kublai Khan in the hopes he will be released from his service.
The story is one of the first we will be covering that doesn't exist in a moving image form. It was reconstructed using audio and photos from the episode. Despite this, this story has to be one of the best of William Hartnell's era and deserves a careful viewing, even by the casual fan.

Stay tuned for Michael's look at upcoming movies in January in a future episode.
