The Batcave Podcast: Episode 39 - "Penguin is a Girl's Best Friend/Penguin Sets a Trend/Penguin's Disastrous End"
(RIGHT CLICK THE IMAGE TO SAVE THIS EPISODE TO YOUR COMPUTER) Aired January 26 and Febraury 1/2, 1967 It's another three part adventure story as The Penguin and Marsha, Queen of Diamonds team up with a scheme that could only happen in Gotham City. For some fans, this is another example of where the show has been failing in its second season, but as John and his guest discuss, there are a number of elements that elevate this story if one looks closely enough. In some respects, it has the markings of a first season episode and at the same time, it's got some of the goofiest bits you would find in the third season episode.
Joining John to discuss this episode professional photographer and co-moderator of the 66 Batman discussion board, Ben Bentley.
This episode is dedicated to the memory of Lesley Gore.

Having traveled to California several times to attend conventions and hang out with Bat-friends, Ben has been lucky enough to try on one of Adam's original screen worn Cowls, meet several surviving cast members from the show and even run up and down the steps of Gotham City Police Headquarters in his own Adam West Batsuit.

Gary (from the previous episode, "The Lure of the Lost") is now flying the straight and narrow. He's all set to turn evidence in on drug dealer Brok. But his partner Mark has other ideas. Mark is working with Brok to bring Gary and Billy down. Can Captain Marvel sort this all out before someone goes too far over the edge? In the continuation of the review of this two-part story, John and Richard discuss if this episode holds up to the five "Holy Moley" rating the first part of the story received. They look at the legality of what Billy and Gary do in order to entrap Brok. They also comment on the lengthly chase scenes as was apparent in the last episode. In the end, does this hold up and does it remain as dark as the first part offered? It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode.
Moral “It's important to be responsible for what we say and what we do.”
Guest Cast Derrel Maury as Mark Christopher S. Nelson as Gary Ian Sands as Rudy Ron Soble as Brock Robert Broils as Officer

Here's how Tim describes this episode: "Sometimes when thinking about making a short film, it’s easy to get caught up in the limitations of the format. “There’s not enough time to develop story or surprise people.” Filmmakers Stacy Gueraseva and Travis Rust have made a short film that disproves those misconceptions. The just released “Synergy” is a short they made in February that’s a topical comment on social media and infomericals with plenty of comedy, twists and turns. Stacy Gueraseva is an experienced magazine editor and non-fiction author. You may recognize her name for her book “Def Jam Inc.” Travis Rust is a seasoned unscripted TV editor and has made short films before. In addition to their own experience, they assembled a trusted cast of talented people. As a husband & wife team, this is Stacy & Travis’s first film together. They tell us how they divided their labor but also trusted their instincts and welcomed the input of their cast & crew. Enjoy."

It’s April, and that’s the start of the baseball season, so here’s two baseball episodes. We’re starting off with The Abbot and Costello Show and their classic “Who’s On First.” This episode is much more than just that classic routine. There’s jokes about contemporary baseball players Bob Feller and Enos Slaughter, and singer Marilyn Maxwell introduces the hit song “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans.” Then we visit the 1870s Old West of Dodge City, Kansas for an episode of Gunsmoke. A visiting baseball team is in town and that means gambling. Can William Conrad as Marshall Matt Dillon route out the bad guys. More importantantly, which set of the not-yet-codified rules of the game will the teams use: the one that lets you walk on eight balls or nine? Episodes The Abbott and Costello Show “Who’s On First” April 17, 1947
