He's spoken of his love for the series for many years on various podcasts.  Now, host John S. Drew takes you along his personal journey through time and space to explore each and every episode of the cult television series, Doctor Who.  In the first episode, John looks at "An Unearthly Child" and points out that while it's not all that great a story, it is still a story that is essential to the entire core of who the Doctor is.

Play along with John and watch "The Daleks", the next story to be reviewed by watching on Hulu or on DVD.

It’s the beginning of the holiday season on “Presenting the Transcription Feature.”  Thanksgiving is not too early for the Lux Radio Theater adaptation of Miracle on 34th Street, featuring the movie’s original stars: Maureen O’Hara, John Payne, and Edmund Gwenn.  Remember that the show’s inciting incident is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the rest of the story plays out over the month of December.  So, as you prepare that turkey and those yams, tune in to some classic old time radio.

Writing music feels like voodoo to me so it’s with great pleasure I welcome composer Kyle Newmaster to the show. Kyle is a classically trained musician who studied jazz before turning his hand to movie soundtracks. A lifelong fan of the movies, Kyle has scored a variety of films including “Where Hope Grows”, “ABC’s Of Death 2”, “Something Wicked” and “The Myth Of The American Sleepover.” With “Star Wars” in the air, we also touch upon Kyle’s work on video games for the famous saga.

Kyle gives us a detailed rundown on how a movie score is completed, from those first notes on a piano all the way to orchestration. The process is not that different from that of screenwriting as we found many similarities in our discussion. Sometimes creative endeavors seem impossibly daunting but Kyle offers great insight on how to tackle them one step – or note – at a time.

Arnold and Scott are “Always Accountable” when it comes to critiquing the latest episode of THE WALKING DEAD, and if you ask the they’ll say “We Were Nowhere Near the Grand Canyon.” That goes for the team on Z NATION too, but never mind that because it’s time to talk about “Books From Beyond” courtesy of the newest installment of ASH VS. EVIL DEAD. Finally, some major Major revelations come up in “Max Wager” on iZOMBIE. Four zombie shows, no waiting!

NOTE: Scott was caught in some bad weather during the recording of this episode, so you might notice things are occasionally a bit stuttery. All part of apocalyptic podcast-making!

The next in our series of interviews with the people who made Shazam and The Secrets of Isis happens with actor Jack McCulloch.  Jack appeared as Vinnie in the two-part first season finale of Shazam!  In this interview, he talks about his career, from his start in religious programming to his appearance in the pilot of Happy Days, to his turning down the chance to audition for Luke Skywalker to his appearance in the final season of M*A*S*H, to working with Jackson Bostwick on Shazam!

Jack McCulloch was a character actor who appeared in television and movies throughout the 70s and into the early 80s.  He has the distinction of being there for the start of Happy Days, by appearing in the pilot episode and playing a solider in the final season of M*A*S*H.  In addition, he appeared in such movies as The California Kid and The Big Red One.

Jack played Vinnie, the leader of the vultures in the two-part season finale of Shazam!'s first season.  After appearing in M*A*S*H, Jack walked away from Hollywood in 1982 and opened a business that specializes in wide width shoes - McCulloch's Wide Shoes.  His store features tributes to Hollywood and many cone from far and wide, not just to buy shoes, but to see his museum-like store.

(Sung to the tune of Maniac):

A Satanist who can zip out of chains.
He is suave, and he’s smart, and clumsy.
He gropes all the chicks, and eats his victim’s brains,
Everybody says he’s eeeee-vil.

He gets burned at the stake, but is feeling no pain.
He knows it’s just a matter of time,
Three hundred years in fact, that he’s coming right back,
To suck out brains with his big, floppy tongue.

He can freeze you with a look,
But you’ll just look like a schnook,
‘Cause you should have known by now:

He’s a Brainiac, Brainiac with some style,
And to eat your brains is the thing that makes him smile.
He’s a Brainiac, Brainiac who’s intense,
And his vengeance really don’t make no damn sense.

Yes, in a long-delayed but well-worth-waiting-for Temple of Bad, Orenthal Hawkins (who brainstormed the soulful ballad above), Andrea Lipinski and Kevin Lauderdale, and Dan Persons take on the goofy Mexican horror film, The Brainiac. Bad makeup, crappy sets, and ridiculous effects rule the day! Click on the player to hear the show, or right-click the image to download.

The Martian continues to hold the top box office spot as a series of lackluster film releases have offered no competition.  But there are two major movie releases set in two popular franchises that will most likely take it down.  The question is, which one will be at the top when the weekend is over?  There's all this, plus Doctor Who and Batman releases on DVD to talk about on a new Weekly Podioplex.

The Batcave Podcast

The Batcave Podcast is an Internet show that takes a look at each and every episode of the 60s Batman television series. Host John S. Drew celebrates the great and looks to see where the show went wrong as it slid into oblivion in its third and final season with a different guest host each week. In the end, John is attempting to justify his love for this series, not to the listener, but to himself. Join him on this long, strange trip.
