![]() On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Volume Two takes Round Two as the Guardians of the Galaxy win the weekend once again. Not even raunchy comedy or King Arthur himself could stop them. This week, it's aliens versus aliens as the xenomorphs return with Alien: Covenant. If chestbusters aren't quite your style, there's some comedy and romance as well.
The home entertainment slate is meatier than last week, offering Xander Cage's return, the final chapter of Resident Evil, Logan, chidren from Mars, and gods in shacks. The Fresh Prince rings rhythm (and the Carlton) to television, and Bruce Lee returns to our retro blu-ray slate with the Dragon beating on gangsters. Denise takes a few minutes to talk Hellboy, The Strain, Sleepy Hollow, and iZombie, and brings us to the end of another edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

![]() In 2015, Joe Books released the first book of Keith’s “Tales of Asgard” trilogy, in which Keith got to write Marvel Comics’ version of the Norse gods in prose form. That first book was Marvel’s Thor: Dueling with Giants. In 2016, Book 2 came out, entitled Marvel’s Sif: Even Dragons Have Their Endings. This month, the thrilling conclusion will be released, and Keith will talk all about the trilogy in general and the final volume, Marvel’s Warriors Three: Godhood’s End in particular, including reading an excerpt from the novel.
Keith has always loved Norse mythology, as it’s also provided the backbone of his cycle of urban fantasy stories set in Key West, Florida. He owes that interest primarily to Marvel’s portrayals of them, and it was the thrill of a lifetime to get to write them.

![]() "The Funny Feline Felonies/The Joke's on Catwoman"Aired December 28, 1967 & January 4, 1968
Catwoman is back in Gotham once again and this time she's teaming up with the Joker. She's hatching a plot to recover over 100 pounds of TNT. The thing is, this is a simple plot by either of their standards and the script refelcts it as it starts out interestingly enough and then quickly slides into complete farce as we get a courtroom scene at the end of part two. Joining John to discuss this episode is podcaster Michael Falkner (The Weekly Podioplex). This time they discuss just how painful it is to watch this when you consider the first episode is actually not that bad. They admire how Eartha Kitt purrs French so elegantly. And they wonder just how does a recent grad student with a librarian's salery manage to come up with the gadgets she does in her crimefighting spree, items that includes a universal antidote pill. Is Alfred involved in this somehow?

![]() For Mother’s Day, Dennis Day sings the ballad “Little Mother of Mine” on “The Jack Benny Show.” On this episode, the gang is flying back to Los Angeles from New York. At the time such a voyage was a rare treat. It took a mere 18 hours; about half as long as a similar trip by train. Then on “Have Gun Will Travel,” Paladin thinks he’s doing his Chinese friends a favor by exposing a con game as old as the hills. But there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye of even the sharpest mind in the Old West.

![]() On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, there were a few shining stars that tried so, so hard to beat the fast and furious family, but Torretto and his gang sped their way to victory and a box office turkey. This week, they face another family: The Guardians of the Galaxy.

We also see a pair of hi-def anniversaries as Saturday Night Fever and Smokey and the Bandit flash forward from the 1970s. ![]() On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a bad week to be a new release. In fact, none of the newbies broke into the top five, and the best among them was a documentary with cute critters. The Fate of the Furious kept driving, and unless The Circle, a street magician, or a latin lover can muster the numbers, Toretto's family will keep riding into the sunset.
The home entertainment slate is a small affair, musicals both modern and classic, a battle of werewolves and vampires, and... well... an affair. Denise caps off the week with The Mummy's daddy issues, another crack at the Dark Phoenix, and some uncertainty about Predator and Trek on this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

![]() Apologies for the delay in this release. On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the winner was expected, but the magnitude was not. The Fate of the Furious was apparently to set records worldwide and guarantee another two stories in the adrenline-charged series. The competition this week is pulling out all the stops, with five titles ranging from angry ex-wives to alien abductions and cute animals, but none of them can drive cars really, really fast. The home entertainment slate is far more limited, spanning Split, The Founder, and the Teen Titans on disc. A dog finds his purpose on digital, and Killjoys joins the Five-O in TV on DVD. Finally, retro titles preps Hulu audiences with a look at a polluted religious dystopia driven by fertility. Denise wraps it all up with comic and video game news, as well as a sad news about the future of Conan. The king of the Cimmerians may be dead, but we still soldier on with this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex on The Chronic Rift Network.

Keith reads “Identity” and talks all about BSI, as well as his plans for future Shirley-and-Jack stories, including “The Six Red Dragons” for Volume 2 of BSI in 2018.

And yet, this radio version also stars Ronald Colman. He had become so identified with the film’s hero, Conway, that it was unthinkable to do a version without him. If you’ve only seen the film, you’ll be surprised to find that the story is the same but many of the characters are different and / or missing.

![]() On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, The Smurfs got beat by the Boss Baby. In fact, the Smurfs got beat by the nearly billion-dollar Beauty and the Beast. You know, The Smurfs even got beat by The Smurfs... twice! Okay, okay, they pulled out a win against geriatric thieves Going in Style, but we're left wondering if it's enough to beat fast and furious car thieves on their eighth movie. Can Smurfs get furious? Can they even drive?
In home entertainment, NASA's Hidden Figures, Monster Trucks, and (shhh... you're not supposed to know) The Bye Bye Man make their debuts alongside digital releases of Underworld: Blood Wars and La La Land. TV on DVD showcases Tangled: The Series, a trip to Mars, and a classic '50s favorite, and Blu-Rays from the past bring a witch hunt to HD.
Denise wraps it all up with news about Mulan and a taking to task of The Mummy and the humanity of monsters before finishing off this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex on The Chronic Rift Network.

![]() On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Disney almost had the box office turkey, but they encountered The Boss Baby in a nail-biter of a weekend. The big question is whether or not the Baby can defend against the power of Smurfs, geriatric theives, or crises of faith. Are the Baby's days on the throne numbered?
In home entertainment, the slate is short for another week, but that's okay. We have Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. On the TV front, we go retro with Diff'rent Strokes and one of the most memorable episodes in '80s sitcom history, and Blu-Rays from the past goes way back with Mr. Deeds. Not the Adam Sandler one... we're talking way, way back. After that, Denise wraps it all up with some comic news and some props for Screen Rant for getting her good before drawing this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex to a close on The Chronic Rift Network.

![]() On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Batman and most of the newbies are told to Get Out as Jordan Peele's fresh flick takes down everyone. The competition is fierce this week because the new arrivals include the afterlife, a god, and the Wolverine. This battle's gonna be nuts.

Catwoman is back in Gotham, but she's looking a little different this season. Eartha Kitt takes over the role, replacing Julie Newmar who was appearing in a film at the time. Curiously, the dynamic between Batman and Catwoman is changed where the sexual tension is almost gone. Instead, Catwoman is obsessed with Batgirl. Joining John to discuss this episode is podcaster Michael Falkner (The Weekly Podioplex). In addition to talking about the missed opportunities of this story (including the idea that Catwoman is literally invading a foreign country when she replaces the queen in her embassy), they also discuss the possible reasoning behind the change in the relationship with Batman and Catwoman.

The TARDIS doors open suddenly in mid-flight causing the dimensions of the vessel to change. When the crew emerges in modern day England, they find themselves the size of insects in a planet of giants. Add to that, there's a murder mystery that they become involved in. How can they solve it and bring the murderer to justice in their diminutive state?
It's the first episode of the second series of Doctor Who from 1964. This was supposed to be the first story in the series proper and it's a good thing it wasn't as it's as short in its content as the time travelers. ![]() It's love, true love on an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex as the sluggish year gets a reboot with three new releases in the top three spots. LEGO Batman will have his hands full fighting mythic monsters as Hollywood and China join forces at The Great Wall. Does the Caped Crusader have the power to break a wall not made of plastic bricks, or can he rely on the undying love of the fans to keep him on top?
In home entertainment, several titles make their debut, including the sci-fi darling Arrival and, on digital, Marvel's newest dimension-beinding wizard. TV on DVD brings drama and crime fighting, the latter with an addiction to lollipops, along with the Starship Enterprise in HD. Raquel Welch caps it off with a trip to the stone age before Denise gives us the lowdown on how Baby Groot is a jerk. After that, we put a bow on this Valentine's Day edition of the Weekly Podioplex because we choo-choo-choose you. Either that, or we shot you with Cupid's arrows again. ![]() Welcome to February with all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex. With Split earning a box office turkey and all of the new releases acting more like Falcons than Patriots, we have to wonder if the Caped Crusader can break through the brick wall and score a win. Joining him (and Robin, if we continue the avian theme) are John Wick and fifty more shades of Fifty Shades. Nothing says Valentines like LEGOs, violence, and hyperbolic BDSM.
In home entertainment, we start with a completely different kind of Loving, followed by Trolls, political fallout, and the dark side of the Justice League. The digital and TV slates are pretty sparse, but classics on Blu-Ray make up for it as we say goodbye to Carrie Fisher with a loose semi-autobiographical salute. Wrap it up with Denise and news of Star Wars vinyls, Game of Thrones beverages, and a wee spot of, shall we say, alternative facts in the Quick Flicks, and we bring this edition of The Weekly Podioplex to close. It's all yours for free, courtesy of The Chronic Rift Network.

![]() It's the end of January on an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, and while we wonder where the month has gone, the box office newbies were Split across the board. As he continues to seek redemption from moviegoers, M. Night Shyamalan has some contenders this week with The Space Between Us and Ring
s. Yes, it's another visit to the short film about a girl who crawls out of well on a weekly basis to kill. We can empathize. Except for the crawling out a well. And the killing. So, basically with the weekly basis bit.

And what of the two animated parts? Do they work with the flow of the rest of the story? And what conclusion did John come to when it comes to the historicals? It's all here in a new review episode. Stay tuned for the start of the second series.

![]() Happy New Year! On the first 2017 edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the rebels are celebrating with turkey as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story makes it three victories in a row. The Rebellion turns its sights on the vampires, lycans, and tree monsters as this week's new releases go supernatural. The newcomers have the advantage of box office fatigue, but Rogue One still carries the Star Wars banner. Who will win?
In home entertainment, a few late 2016 titles come to disc and streaming, as well as Bones, Sleepy Hollow, and The Librarians in TV on DVD. We cap off the new slate with a twenty-year old Jerry Maguire asking you to show him your hard-earned cash, alongside the original Gone in 60 Seconds. Denise takes it home with a tribute to Carrie Fisher and a spoiler-free review of Rogue One, putting the cap on this new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

![]() On an brand new double-digest holiday edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the rebels are in charge as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story won the weekend in grand fashion. Disney and Lucasfilm face a Death Star-sized challenge as 2016 comes to a close as four major contenders arrive just in time for one of the top movie holidays. Can the rebels withstand firepower of that magnitude? In home entertainment, several late summer and early fall titles make their debut just in time for gift-giving, and they make the majority of the slate. Television takes a break, and horror takes over the high-def titles from the past. We wrap up the show with Denise and the Quick Flicks, and we wrap up the year with this final 2016 edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

![]() After almost a year, John returns with his brief looks at the "classic" Doctor Who series. We pick things up with "The Aztecs", a fantastic first season story that asks the question most time travelers wonder, what would you change about the past if you could and would you be able? Barbara is given the opportunity when she is mistaken for an Aztec god. For her, it's the perfect opportunity to end some of the barbaric behavior of the Aztecs, but for others, it's an opportunity to jockey for power and in doing so, endangers the lives of the time travelers. ![]() For our second Christmas-themed episode this year, we move from Christmas into New Year’s. We start off with Eve Arden in “Our Miss Brooks.” It’s Christmas Eve, and Connie seems destined to spend it alone (if you don’t count her pathetic little Christmas tree), but what would a Christmas comedy be without a little miracle? Then it’s time to “Meet Me at Parky’s,” where that congenial Greek restaurateur, Parky himself, will spend the end of December looking for tickets to the New Year’s Day Rose Bowl game in Pasadena. If he can get any, that will be a miracle as well.

![]() On an brand new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a terrible week to be a new release. Moana and Fantastic Beasts ruled the roost once again, and they have one more week to keep audiences entertained before the Death Star comes back to town. In the meantime, Miss Sloane and the Office Christmas Party will try their hardest to win hearts, minds, and cold hard cash. Do they have a chance against wizards, teenage heroes, and demigods?
Home entertainment gets busy as pets, super secret agents, cowboys, airline heroes, and storks make waves. Among these big name titles, however, is a touching documentary from a son to his late father, an idol from a science fiction legend. Television titles include irreverent animation, romance, a spinoff from a galaxy far away, and a high fantasy MTV project. It all rounds out with octane as Mad Max hits shelves in Black and Chrome fashion.
Finally, Denise brings it all to a close with a fitting and thematic review of a deeply inspirational film in the Quick Flicks. What better way to stay warm as December debuts than with your friends at The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

![]() Shazam! "Double Trouble"September 27, 1975
Billy and Mentor are shocked to learn that Captain Marvel is accused of robbing a gas station. Billy's first instinct is to investigate the matter, but he turns himself in as Captain Marvel in order to prove a point to a young boy about the idea that no one is above the law. But if Captain Marvel is in jail, who is going to prove his innocence? John and Richard are both in agreement that this is one of the best episodes in the entire series. We learn though it's one that Jackson Bostwick suggested as an idea for the show and it allows Captain Marvel a lot more dialogue and screen time. The two discuss the potential of the episode, the importance of the moral today in a world where many feel they are above the law, and the number of known actors who appeared in this episode. It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode. Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com. Moral: “Respecting the law is just another way of saying that we respect each other. Laws have been made for the good of everyone, and when someone breaks the law, they're saying "I don't care about you." When you respect the law, you respect yourself."

![]() "The Londinium Larcenies/The Foggiest Notion/The Bloody Tower" Aired November 23/30 and December 6, 1967 Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Commissioner Gordon travel to Londinium at the request of the President to help Venerable Ireland Yard with a series of bizarre thefts throughout the city. Batman quickly realizes that the evidence points to Lord Marmaduke Ffogg and Lady Penelope Peasoup and her finishing school for girls. Once again, we are faced with a three-part story so big, it needs three guests hosts to cover every detail. Jim Beard of Gotham City 14 Miles travels with John overseas to discuss the episode with Andrew Leyland of the HeyKids Comics Podcast and photographer and Batman 66 board moderator Ben Bentley. ![]() Isis "Spots of the Leopard"September 20, 1975
Jenny's father Chuck has returned after a stay in prison for theft and wants to start his life over. A series of thefts of industrial diamonds has a similar MO to Chuck's leading to almost everyone to believe, including Jenny, that Chuck may be guilty. Everyone, except Andrea. Can she prove this to Jenny before it's too late?
John and Richard are impressed with this episode, which they feel has more depth than a usual episode of either series. They go on to discuss how Isis feels like it learned from the mistakes of the first season of Shazam! while Shazam! continues to produce the same kind of stories as before. Finally, they make the comparison of these two shows with Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode. Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.
Moral: "Today we learned the importance of keeping faith in a friend or someone you love even if it seems they’ve done something wrong. If they have, it will come out soon enough. If they haven’t, they need someone who will believe in them when others won’t. That’s what being a true friend really means." ![]() For Thanksgiving, we present two Turkey Day-themed comedies. First up, on “The Jack Benny Show,” Mary reads a poem she wrote just for 1939. From 1939 to 1941, Thanksgiving was celebrated not on the fourth Thursday of the month, but the third. Then Jack wonders what’s going on when the turkey he bought lays an egg as big as a cantaloupe. “The Great Gildersleeve” was always filled with topical laughs. As Thanksgiving approaches, Gildy hopes to get a coveted “B Ration” gas card, nephew Leroy has to perform in the school Thanksgiving play, and it becomes harder and harder to actually find a turkey.

And if that's not enough magic, Moana joins that fray in two weeks. Welcome to the November blockbuster season. ![]() NOTE: With apologies to Michael and Denise, here is a much delayed episode of The Weekly Podioplex.
On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it's the last show of the month, and a surprising (yet fitting) champion has emerged with Boo! A Madea Halloween. It's not certain how long Madea will hold the crown since Jack Reacher wasn't far behind, and there's a conspiracy on the horizon with Robert Langdon and his adventures in Inferno.
In home entertainment, we go on a Hunt for the Wilderpeople, find Dory on digital, race Nash Bridges on the television front, and head off to Neverland in a hi-def look back to 1991. It's a short slate, but it ends in top fashion as Denise brings you the news in the Quick Flicks, putting the wrap on this installment of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

With the World Series almost upon us, we thought we’d give you a tale of baseball that culminates at the World Series. “The Lux Radio Theater” brought listeners abridged versions of popular films of the day. This time it’s “It Happens Every Spring,” with Ray Miland reprising the role he created in the 1949 film of the same name. Miland plays a mild-mannered college professor who stumbles up on wood repellent. When secretly applied to baseballs, it makes him a pitcher that no one can hit. Play ball! ![]() On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, we're haunting the station as The Girl on the Train arrives on time despite a poor reception, solidly beating the rest of the newcomers. She faces some steep competition from The Accountant, Max Steel, and Kevin Hart and we enter the middle of the month. In home entertainment, the Ghostbusters and Krampus take advantage of the season in a bid for your shelves, along with the Ice Age crew and Tarzan. If digital is more your speed, Batman and Robin dust off the cowl and tights for another amazing adventure. Meanwhile, TV on DVD goes retro with a handful of blasts from the past to accompany Hannibal, Mike & Molly, and The Good Witch. To wrap things up, a Stephen King classic brings the scares from the past on Blu-Ray. "Surf''s Up, Joker's Under" Aired November 16, 1967
The Joker plans to become king of the surf by winning the championships at Gotham Point. Didn't know he could surf, did you? Well he can, thanks to the reverseramator, he's been able to steal the surfing ability of champion surfer Skip Parker. It's all part of Joker's scheme to control the minds of the surfing community and in time, the world. We've seen a similar theme this season with the Riddler, the Penguin, and even Louie the Lilac and this one is the most outlandish - but it works.
Joining John to discuss this episode is Dan Greenfield, creator and author of the 13th Dimension website. In fact, Dan will argue that this may be one of the best episodes, not only of the third season, but of the entire series itself. Take a listen and let us know what you think. ![]() "Charlie X" The Enterprise takes on the lone survivor of a crashed transport ship. The young teen struggles with being among so many people and learning how to behave. But he is struggling with something else as well, something that could threaten all of humanity if he's not stopped. John and Krissy have a great deal to say about this episode, one they feel would have made a better first episode to premiere the series as it has the action and yet the intellectual beats we expect in an episode of Star Trek. ![]() "The Man Trap" September 8, 1966 50 years ago on this date, Star Trek premiered on the NBC Network. Most people know the story of the struggle the show went through to stay on the air, the letter-writing campaigns that were mounted in an effort to save the show from cancellation. It only lasted three seasons, but it lived on with the fans through syndicated television. From there, the show spawned numerous spin-off television shows and theatrical movies. As Star Trek moves into a new generation with a recently released movie and a new television series set to bow in January 2017, John felt it was the time to take a moment a discuss each episode on the 50th anniversary of its airing. Joining John to discuss the series is "the next generation" of fandom, Krissy Myers. Together, they will take a brief look at each episode and offer their immediate reactions to watching each either for the first time, as in Krissy's case, or after numerous viewings, as in John's case. First up is the very first episode, "The Man Trap". The two talk about how Canada was cheated in getting the credit for the actual 50th anniversary of the premiere of the series, how the televised episode differs from earlier drafts (based on John's readings of James Blish's adaptation), and how this felt more like an episode of Lost in Space and not Star Trek. Take a listen and join in the conversation, letting us know what you think here or over on our Facebook page.

![]() We think of Ray Bradbury as a fantasist or a science fiction writer. But he was equally adept at crime drama. One of his first sales was “Killer Come Back to Me” to Detective Tales in July of 1944. Less than two years later, it was adapted for the radio by the “Molle Mystery Theatre.” This hard-boiled noir tale of killers, dames, and stolen identities takes a number of clever twists and turns. But does crime ever pay? Then on “Meet Me At Parky’s,” everyone’s favorite Greek restauranteur decides to help out with a teacher shortage. He may be known for his malapropisms in English, but if he’s going to teach his native Greek nothing could possibly go wrong, right?

![]() Isis "Fool's Dare"September 13, 1975
Cindy Lee takes a dare to spend time in an abandoned junkyard. But she's unaware of the danger that lies within. And how is the junkyard connected to a car theft ring? And why doesn't Andrea simply turn to Isis for help when her car is stolen? These questions and more will be discussed on a new episode of the podcast. John and Richard wind up being split on how they feel about this episode. It's good, but is it as good as one of them feels? Also, what were the producers thinking when they dressed Cindy Lee in the more child-like clothing? And just how cool is Tut? Take a listen and let us know what you think. It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode. Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com. Moral: "When someone dares you to do something, it's often either something dangerous or wrong to for some other reason. So the question isn't whether you have the guts to do it or not, the question is do you have the nerve enough not to take the dare? Doing anything that you know is wrong is dumb, because you're the one who pays for it."

![]() "Louie the Lilac" Aired: October 26, 1967 Louie the Lilac wants to corner the flower market of Gotham City with the reasoning that if he does that, he can control the world. It sounds like something similar to what Riddler and Penguin came up with a few weeks ago, but in watching the episode, one finds it kind of makes sense this time. Also, John has stated he's not a fan of Milton Berle, but in discussing this episode, you'll see he actually appreciates Berle in the role of Louie. So what is wrong with this episode? Joining John to discuss the good and the bad of this story is author Jay Smith. Comment on the episode here or write thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.
![]() Jay Smith is the creator and executive producer for the Parsec Award-winning audio drama series HG World. Since 2009, Jay and his company of players and producers have been telling the story of survivors in the middle of a global zombie uprising. Now in its third season, this "satellite" production has featured dozens of actors across four continents making it a production truly on a global scale. Since its debut, episodes of HG World and its spin-off series, the Parsec finalist The Diary of Jill Woodbine and The Googies have been downloaded close to a million times. Inspired by the golden age of radio, Hidden Harbor Mysteries presents a story inspired by stylish pulp era radio adventures like The Shadow, Sam Spade, The Green Hornet, and I Love a Mystery. Performed by a stellar cast, Hidden Harbor hopes to integrate classic radio storytelling with some modern twists. Jay draws from the work of Orson Welles, Arch Obelor and looks to modern audio dramatists like Douglas Adams and Dirk Maggs as inspiration to create a rich, realistic world of survival horror laced with dark comedy and compelling human drama. Jay holds a BA in Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University and is working on his Master of Fine Arts from Seton Hill University’s innovative Writing Popular Fiction program.
