On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it's evident that pirates rule and lifeguards drool, even if it was a lackluster holiday performance for both of them. This week, Captain Jack and the babes and brawn of Baywatch contend with an Amazon princess. It's a DC Comics origin story that isn't for Superman, isn't for Batman, and isn't even for a man. Finally, the world has Wonder Woman.

On the home entertainment slate, studios air out some winter releases with The Shack, Before I Fall, A Cure for Wellness, and some major crimes and intrigue on TV. Denise ends on a high note with various popular properties coming to screens in the near future, putting the polish on another edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

The March of Dimes gets mentioned on both our quiz show and our comedy in this installment.  On “Information Please,” the guest is General Hugh Johnson, head of President Roosevelt’s National Recovery Administration, who also worked hard to raise money to fight polio.  Then, on “The Danny Kaye Show,” the versatile comedian / actor / singer plays an exaggerated version of himself.  As he tries to get to Washington for a March of Dimes fund-raiser, he finds plenty of opportunities to use his patented fake-foreign accents and scat-patter as well as sing a sweet song or two.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a battle between then aliens and the xenomorphs won. Barely. Now it's the battle of the aliens (both sets) and the pirates. Bring rum and that guy's leg, and watchout for facehuggers.

On the home entertainment slate, old man Logan, haunted houses, the Great Wall, and John Wick come home. So does an animated superhero who is friends with the Flash, Green Arrow, and the Legends. Disney also gets in on things with some ducks. Mighty ones. Denise takes us out with a few geeky articles and a whole lotta "yaaaaaaayyy" as we put the wraps on another edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

Isis

"The Sound of Silence"

September 27, 1975

Andrea has developed a force field generator called the Circlegard.  It's just what a disgruntled student needs to get himself a new car.  Can Andrea save Bill from the dangerous turn he's taking by aligning with a local mobster?  Will she be in time to also save him from the radiation that is leaking from the Circlegard?

The Secrets of Isis takes a turn toward the more technical with this episode.  It's a story dealing with the usual misguided teenagers and the men who manipulate them, but it also has the element of the force field generator and the dangers of radiation.  John and Richard discuss how this new element propells the show forward in terms of story telling opportunities.  They also wonder how a project like the Circlegard could be developed in a high school with the dangers of radiation involved.

It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode.  Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.

Moral: "We all know that two wrongs don't make a right.  They only make things worse.  If you're ever tempted in that direction, just remember that the right way is always the best way."

Guest Cast

Leigh McCloskey as Bill Cady

James Canning as B.J. Tanker

Philip Bruns as Jack Evans

Wayne Storm as Jocko

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Volume Two takes Round Two as the Guardians of the Galaxy win the weekend once again. Not even raunchy comedy or King Arthur himself could stop them. This week, it's aliens versus aliens as the xenomorphs return with Alien: Covenant. If chestbusters aren't quite your style, there's some comedy and romance as well.

The home entertainment slate is meatier than last week, offering Xander Cage's return, the final chapter of Resident Evil, Logan, chidren from Mars, and gods in shacks. The Fresh Prince rings rhythm (and the Carlton) to television, and Bruce Lee returns to our retro blu-ray slate with the Dragon beating on gangsters. Denise takes a few minutes to talk Hellboy, The Strain, Sleepy Hollow, and iZombie, and brings us to the end of another edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

In 2015, Joe Books released the first book of Keith’s “Tales of Asgard” trilogy, in which Keith got to write Marvel Comics’ version of the Norse gods in prose form. That first book was Marvel’s Thor: Dueling with Giants. In 2016, Book 2 came out, entitled Marvel’s Sif: Even Dragons Have Their Endings. This month, the thrilling conclusion will be released, and Keith will talk all about the trilogy in general and the final volume, Marvel’s Warriors Three: Godhood’s End in particular, including reading an excerpt from the novel.

Keith has always loved Norse mythology, as it’s also provided the backbone of his cycle of urban fantasy stories set in Key West, Florida. He owes that interest primarily to Marvel’s portrayals of them, and it was the thrill of a lifetime to get to write them.

"The Funny Feline Felonies/

The Joke's on Catwoman"

Aired December 28, 1967 & January 4, 1968

Catwoman is back in Gotham once again and this time she's teaming up with the Joker.  She's hatching a plot to recover over 100 pounds of TNT.  The thing is, this is a simple plot by either of their standards and the script refelcts it as it starts out interestingly enough and then quickly slides into complete farce as we get a courtroom scene at the end of part two.

Joining John to discuss this episode is podcaster Michael Falkner (The Weekly Podioplex).  This time they discuss just how painful it is to watch this when you consider the first episode is actually not that bad.  They admire how Eartha Kitt purrs French so elegantly.  And they wonder just how does a recent grad student with a librarian's salery manage to come up with the gadgets she does in her crimefighting spree, items that includes a universal antidote pill.  Is Alfred involved in this somehow?

Comment on the episode here or write thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.

For Mother’s Day, Dennis Day sings the ballad “Little Mother of Mine” on “The Jack Benny Show.”  On this episode, the gang is flying back to Los Angeles from New York.  At the time such a voyage was a rare treat.  It took a mere 18 hours; about half as long as a similar trip by train.  Then on “Have Gun Will Travel,” Paladin thinks he’s doing his Chinese friends a favor by exposing a con game as old as the hills.  But there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye of even the sharpest mind in the Old West.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, there was only one clear winner, and they are the Guardians of the Galaxy. The odds remain in their favor as the box office newcomers are a retelling of the King Arthur legend and a mother/daughter comedy.

The home entertainment slate is equally light, offering Fifty Shades, a rocking dog, a prison tale in orange and black, and an accidental tourist. Denise adds in a plethora of news items from across the universe, drawing this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex to a close on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, there were a few shining stars that tried so, so hard to beat the fast and furious family, but Torretto and his gang sped their way to victory and a box office turkey. This week, they face another family: The Guardians of the Galaxy.

The home entertainment slate is a mix of dogs, rings, zombies, babies, and 4400 mysterious people. We also see a pair of hi-def anniversaries as Saturday Night Fever and Smokey and the Bandit flash forward from the 1970s. Finally, Denise caps off the comics celebration with a whole bushel of news from the Marvel universe. That and more on this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a bad week to be a new release. In fact, none of the newbies broke into the top five, and the best among them was a documentary with cute critters. The Fate of the Furious kept driving, and unless The Circle, a street magician, or a latin lover can muster the numbers, Toretto's family will keep riding into the sunset.

The home entertainment slate is a small affair, musicals both modern and classic, a battle of werewolves and vampires, and... well... an affair. Denise caps off the week with The Mummy's daddy issues, another crack at the Dark Phoenix, and some uncertainty about Predator and Trek on this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

Apologies for the delay in this release.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the winner was expected, but the magnitude was not. The Fate of the Furious was apparently to set records worldwide and guarantee another two stories in the adrenline-charged series. The competition this week is pulling out all the stops, with five titles ranging from angry ex-wives to alien abductions and cute animals, but none of them can drive cars really, really fast.

The home entertainment slate is far more limited, spanning Split, The Founder, and the Teen Titans on disc. A dog finds his purpose on digital, and Killjoys joins the Five-O in TV on DVD. Finally, retro titles preps Hulu audiences with a look at a polluted religious dystopia driven by fertility.

Denise wraps it all up with comic and video game news, as well as a sad news about the future of Conan. The king of the Cimmerians may be dead, but we still soldier on with this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex on The Chronic Rift Network.

Now available is Baker Street Irregulars, a new anthology of alternate Sherlock Holmes stories edited by Michael A. Ventrella & Jonathan Maberry. Keith talks about his contribution to the anthology, “Identity,” a tale of a young woman in modern New York City named Shirley Holmes and a young African-American medical student at Columbia University named Jack Watson, as they help a young woman whose fiancé has gone missing.

Keith reads “Identity” and talks all about BSI, as well as his plans for future Shirley-and-Jack stories, including “The Six Red Dragons” for Volume 2 of BSI in 2018.

The “Lux Radio Theater” usually adapted films, but this adaptation of “Lost Horizon” is based on the 1933 novel by James Hilton, not the 1937 film starring Ronald Colman and directed by Frank Capra.  And yet, this radio version also stars Ronald Colman.  He had become so identified with the film’s hero, Conway, that it was unthinkable to do a version without him.  If you’ve only seen the film, you’ll be surprised to find that the story is the same but many of the characters are different and / or missing.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, The Smurfs got beat by the Boss Baby. In fact, the Smurfs got beat by the nearly billion-dollar Beauty and the Beast. You know, The Smurfs even got beat by The Smurfs... twice! Okay, okay, they pulled out a win against geriatric thieves Going in Style, but we're left wondering if it's enough to beat fast and furious car thieves on their eighth movie. Can Smurfs get furious? Can they even drive?

In home entertainment, NASA's Hidden Figures, Monster Trucks, and (shhh... you're not supposed to know) The Bye Bye Man make their debuts alongside digital releases of Underworld: Blood Wars and La La Land. TV on DVD showcases Tangled: The Series, a trip to Mars, and a classic '50s favorite, and Blu-Rays from the past bring a witch hunt to HD.

Denise wraps it all up with news about Mulan and a taking to task of The Mummy and the humanity of monsters before finishing off this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Disney almost had the box office turkey, but they encountered The Boss Baby in a nail-biter of a weekend. The big question is whether or not the Baby can defend against the power of Smurfs, geriatric theives, or crises of faith. Are the Baby's days on the throne numbered?

In home entertainment, the slate is short for another week, but that's okay. We have Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. On the TV front, we go retro with Diff'rent Strokes and one of the most memorable episodes in '80s sitcom history, and Blu-Rays from the past goes way back with Mr. Deeds. Not the Adam Sandler one... we're talking way, way back. After that, Denise wraps it all up with some comic news and some props for Screen Rant for getting her good before drawing this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex to a close on The Chronic Rift Network.

As promised last time, I’m giving you the first episode of the amateur detective drama “The Casebook of Gregory Hood,” a summer replacement series that became a hit in its own right.  Written by science fiction and mystery writer Anthony Boucher and writer Denis Green, it takes full advantage of its post-war San Francisco setting.  Then on the “Jack Benny Program,” Jack has to sneak around in order to avoid being seen by actor Ronald Colman.  Luckily, he has his old-lady costume from a production of “Charley’s Aunt.”  So on go the bonnet and high heels . .

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Disney continues to score with the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, handily defeating CHiPs, Life, and even Power Rangers. This week brings another live-action adaptation, this time from the anime genre with Ghost in the Shell. It also brings The Boss Baby. Can either of them take on the song as old as rhyme?

In home entertainment, the slate is short once again as Fantastic Beasts, Planet Earth, and Hidden Figures headline the new movies, MST3K and Static Shock come from TV to DVD, and Cool Runnings jams into HD. Denise wraps it all up with some thoughts on the DCEU before wrapping this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex to a close on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Disney scored a major record-breaking win with Beauty and the Beast. This week continues the revival theme with a new adaptation of Power Rangers and a 21st century bite at the '70s classic CHIPS, as well as a new sci-fi horror film called Life. Can any of these newbies de-throne the Mouse, or will Belle and Beast dance for another week?

In home entertainment, the slate is short as three winter titles make their way to disc, Jyn Erso's mission goes digital, Batman and Dick Van Dyke take on TV, and Hitchcock brings up the anchor position with Lifeboat. Denise wraps it all up with a basket full of news, bringing this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex to a close on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Logan stepped aside as the giant ape Kong took control of the box office. Adding another creature to the mix this week is Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. With so many beasts in the mix, will the Mouse House's magic win the weekend?

In home entertainment, it's drama galore as a few winter releases make their way to disc. TV steps back in time with a slate of retro titles including award-winners and memorable finales, and HD takes the time-traveling cue by bringing Firestarter to blu-ray. Finally, Denise takes on a superheroic slate of comic book news items to wrap this new edition of the Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

From Grasshopper to the Prairie, actor Radames Pera performed in a number of iconic 70s television shows.  He joins us in this special episode, giving us a look at how his career all began with a chance encounter with director Daniel Mann, earning him the role of Stavros in the Anthony Quinn starring film, A Dream of Kings.  From there, he went on to appear in shows such as Medical Center, The Rookies, Night Gallery and many, many more.  He talks about his time as Grasshopper on Kung Fu and the adoptive son of Mr. Edwards on Little House on the Prairie.  Also, he shares his memories of his appearance on "Fool's Gold" on Shazam!

Radames Perá (born September 14, 1960) is an American former actor best known for his role as "Grasshopper" the student Kwai Chang Caine in the 1972–1975 television series Kung Fu. He is the only living regular cast member from the show.

At age eight, Radames was asked by director Daniel Mann to play the role of Anthony Quinn and Irene Papas' dying son in the film A Dream of Kings (1969). He met the director at a dinner party and was eventually cast in the role of Stavros. Pera's other acting roles include a disturbed pre-teen in an episode of Night Gallery, "Silent Snow, Secret Snow", narrated by Orson Welles, and guest appearances on The Six Million Dollar Man, as Don Ameche's son in the television movie Gidget Gets Married. Between 1969 and 1985, other guest-starring credits include two episodes of Lassie, Marcus Welby, M.D., the single episodes of Family Affair, Hawaii Five-O, and The Waltons among many others.

Today, Radames serves as a member of A Minor Consideration, a non-profit organization formed to give guidance to young performers, past, present, and future.

"The Ogg Couple"

Aired December 21, 1967

It's the final go around for Vincent Price and Anne Baxter as Egghead and Olga in a story that should have been their first go around together.  It's pretty much a mess and this has turned out to be the shortest podcast review ever because of it.  But there are some hightlights including an opening that will have you talking and a discussion on how dangerous it is for Batgirl to be riding around on radioactive sparkplugs.

Joining John to work this all out is author and podcaster, Kevin Lauderdale.

Published by Dark Quest Books in 2015, it includes 11 of Keith’s stories, from the shared worlds of Viral and V-Wars to stories that originally saw print in Furry Fantastic, Liar Liar, Defending the Future: Best-Laid Plans, Amazing Stories, and The Fedoras Literary Review, as well as two previously unpublished stories and new stories in the worlds of Dragon Precinct and Cassie Zukav, weirdness magnet.

In addition to telling the story of this collection, Keith reads two stories from it: the new Cassie story, “Seven-Mile Race,” and one of the unpublished ones, “Behold a White Tricycle,” a story originally written for the never-published 44 Clowns: 11 Stories of the 4 Clowns of the Apocalypse. On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Logan sliced into the box office and eliminated the competition, using his cinematic swan song to make his mark on the record books. This week, the Wolverine goes toe to toe with a giant ape as Kong: Skull Island takes audiences on a forbidden journey. Which mutant will win?

In home entertainment, Disney takes us to the islands as Moana makes her debut alongside Jackie, Scamander, and the Passengers. The Americans sneak into the TV list, and two classics make their way onto high-definition. After that, Denise wraps things up with a new slate of news in the Quick Flicks, putting the finishing touches on this first March edition of the Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Batman and most of the newbies are told to Get Out as Jordan Peele's fresh flick takes down everyone. The competition is fierce this week because the new arrivals include the afterlife, a god, and the Wolverine. This battle's gonna be nuts.

In home entertainment, it's another short slate headlined by Doctor Strange as Marvel continues Phase III. Academy Award-winning Best Picture Moonlight comes to disc as Collateral Beauty hits digital, and the Tanners bring Fuller House from TV to DVD. After a beastly look at retro classics, Denise goes wild with news before closing the cage door on another edition of the Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Batman defeats his foes as Presidents' Day Weekend becomes a rough one for new releases. This week, the Caped Crusader will face a rocking dog, a race along the Autobahn, and an interracial romantic comedy as he fights to maintain the cape and cowl of number one movie in the nation. Can it be done?

In home entertainment, it's a short slate across the board, highlighted by the debut of Doctor Mysterio on shelves. Denise brings news about Guardians of the Galaxy, Rufio's Hook prequel, Bryan Cranston on Better Call Saul, and more before bringing things to a close on this edition of the Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

The podcast is back, but with a new look and attitude.  Actually, it's not a podcast so much as  vid-cast now.  John explains in this episode what the show is going to be like going forward.  In the first of two parts, John introduces the game that will be played, Card Sharks, giving a brief history of the show on TV and introducing the components of the game.  Finally, he offers an episode of the game show from its original run.

Want to be part of the fun?  Have a game show favorite you'd like to play?  Write John at drewshi2000@gmail.com and let him know what are your favorite game shows.  When we come up to it, you could be one of the people considered to play.

Aired December 13, 1967

Catwoman is back in Gotham, but she's looking a little different this season.  Eartha Kitt takes over the role, replacing Julie Newmar who was appearing in a film at the time.  Curiously, the dynamic between Batman and Catwoman is changed where the sexual tension is almost gone.  Instead, Catwoman is obsessed with Batgirl.

Joining John to discuss this episode is podcaster Michael Falkner (The Weekly Podioplex).  In addition to talking about the missed opportunities of this story (including the idea that Catwoman is literally invading a foreign country when she replaces the queen in her embassy), they also discuss the possible reasoning behind the change in the relationship with Batman and Catwoman.

Production: J

Airdates: October 31 - November 14, 1964

The TARDIS doors open suddenly in mid-flight causing the dimensions of the vessel to change.  When the crew emerges in modern day England, they find themselves the size of insects in a planet of giants.  Add to that, there's a murder mystery that they become involved in.  How can they solve it and bring the murderer to justice in their diminutive state?

It's the first episode of the second series of Doctor Who from 1964.  This was supposed to be the first story in the series proper and it's a good thing it wasn't as it's as short in its content as the time travelers.  Take a listen to this brief review and let us know what you think of it by leaving a comment here.

It's love, true love on an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex as the sluggish year gets a reboot with three new releases in the top three spots. LEGO Batman will have his hands full fighting mythic monsters as Hollywood and China join forces at The Great Wall. Does the Caped Crusader have the power to break a wall not made of plastic bricks, or can he rely on the undying love of the fans to keep him on top?

In home entertainment, several titles make their debut, including the sci-fi darling Arrival and, on digital, Marvel's newest dimension-beinding wizard. TV on DVD brings drama and crime fighting, the latter with an addiction to lollipops, along with the Starship Enterprise in HD. Raquel Welch caps it off with a trip to the stone age before Denise gives us the lowdown on how Baby Groot is a jerk. After that, we put a bow on this Valentine's Day edition of the Weekly Podioplex because we choo-choo-choose you. Either that, or we shot you with Cupid's arrows again. That cherub really needs to quit leaving his weapons lying around The Chronic Rift Network.

Welcome to February with all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex. With Split earning a box office turkey and all of the new releases acting more like Falcons than Patriots, we have to wonder if the Caped Crusader can break through the brick wall and score a win. Joining him (and Robin, if we continue the avian theme) are John Wick and fifty more shades of Fifty Shades. Nothing says Valentines like LEGOs, violence, and hyperbolic BDSM.

In home entertainment, we start with a completely different kind of Loving, followed by Trolls, political fallout, and the dark side of the Justice League. The digital and TV slates are pretty sparse, but classics on Blu-Ray make up for it as we say goodbye to Carrie Fisher with a loose semi-autobiographical salute. Wrap it up with Denise and news of Star Wars vinyls, Game of Thrones beverages, and a wee spot of, shall we say, alternative facts in the Quick Flicks, and we bring this edition of The Weekly Podioplex to close. It's all yours for free, courtesy of The Chronic Rift Network.

It’s a Presidents’ Day episode of “Presenting the Transcription Feature.”  On “Meet Me at Parky’s,” Greek restaurateur Parkyakarkus celebrates Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday.  He wants to do the Great Rail Splitter proud, but keeps having trouble with his decorating scheme.  Then on “The Great Gildersleeve” Gildy finds himself in a George Washington’s birthday bind.  He’s trying to set a good example for his nephew by not telling any lies, but reality keeps getting in the way.

It's the end of January on an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, and while we wonder where the month has gone, the box office newbies were Split across the board. As he continues to seek redemption from moviegoers, M. Night Shyamalan has some contenders this week with The Space Between Us and Ring

s. Yes, it's another visit to the short film about a girl who crawls out of well on a weekly basis to kill. We can empathize. Except for the crawling out a well. And the killing. So, basically with the weekly basis bit.

Anyway, in home entertainment, Jack Reacher doesn't listen to his titles, Madea says boo, Disney crowns the Queen of Katwe, and Arrival arrives on digital. Television titles welcome Penny Dreadful, Queen Victoria, and the return of two classic sci-fi favorites. Add in the boy without strings on a new blu-ray for a nice finish to the month.

What? You want more? Denise has just the thing with Marvel meet-ups and Star Wars stories, bringing January to fantastic finale on The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office was dominated by two of the three newcomers. In particular, it was a good weekend for an oft-ridiculed filmmaker and his new title Split. This week brings an end to the apocalypse of Resident Evil, smiles with A Dog's Purpose, and a quest for Gold. Can M. Night Shyamalan protect his win?

In home entertainment, it's a short slate with symbology, monsters, trolls, and detectives. Sherlock comes home, as do two classics including a David Bowie alien film. Denise tops it all off with a variety of news, and we draw things to a close on The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

Mysterious deaths by the water, Casey on the case, and a brief look at Britt Reid's past!  This one appears to have it all despite the odd title and John and Jim are in agreement (for the first time) on the merits of the episode, but is it enough to earn the coveted "Must See" rating?  Let us know what you think of the episode by writing us here or at thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a holiday weekend, but if you were a new release, it was a bad one. Hidden Figures defeated everyone, the Rebellion broke the half-billion mark, and Hollywood is hoping beyond hope that the return of Xander Cage in a fifteen year revival of xXx can put a stop to all of it. It's January, so we shall see.

In home entertainment, audiences are treated to a variety of films including Roger Corman's newest: Death Race 2050. Jack Reacher goes back (even though the title warned him not to) on digital, Rizzoli & Isles says farewell on TV, and the classics take Two For the Road. Denise shakes things up with a discussion of remakes that you never knew you wanted but are getting anyway, drawing this new edition of The Weekly Podioplex to a close on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a tight race for first place as the East Coast got frozen out with winter storms. The first series of Doctor Who comes to an end and there's a lot to praise in this final story, "The Reign of Terror".  But do the parts worthy of praise equal a whole satisfying story?  And what of the two animated parts?  Do they work with the flow of the rest of the story?  And what conclusion did John come to when it comes to the historicals?  It's all here in a new review episode.  Stay tuned for the start of the second series.

Happy New Year! On the first 2017 edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the rebels are celebrating with turkey as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story makes it three victories in a row. The Rebellion turns its sights on the vampires, lycans, and tree monsters as this week's new releases go supernatural. The newcomers have the advantage of box office fatigue, but Rogue One still carries the Star Wars banner. Who will win?

In home entertainment, a few late 2016 titles come to disc and streaming, as well as Bones, Sleepy Hollow, and The Librarians in TV on DVD. We cap off the new slate with a twenty-year old Jerry Maguire asking you to show him your hard-earned cash, alongside the original Gone in 60 Seconds. Denise takes it home with a tribute to Carrie Fisher and a spoiler-free review of Rogue One, putting the cap on this new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

Let’s start the new year off with some New Year’s-themed episodes.  First off, the stars of “Fibber McGee and Molly” are thrilled to be invited to the New Year’s Eve dance at the highfalutin Wistful Vista Country Club.  They’ll be mixing with “society so high your nose will bleed.”  Then jump forward a couple of days to the first episode of “Information Please” from 1939.  The panelists will be quizzed about the previous year’s events, and they’ll have to untangle a very tricky poem.

The TARDIS lands on an Earth vessel trapped in orbit about the Sense Sphere.  The inhabitants are hesitant about discussing the Sensorites who are holding them in place and the Doctor and his companions quickly learn about the xenophobic aliens and their strange world.  This is a story that John is of mixed feelings about.  There is much to laud in the first half of the story, but the second half lets the story down.  Take a listen and find out the good and the bad and where it plays out in the rankings.

On an brand new double-digest holiday edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the rebels are in charge as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story won the weekend in grand fashion. Disney and Lucasfilm face a Death Star-sized challenge as 2016 comes to a close as four major contenders arrive just in time for one of the top movie holidays. Can the rebels withstand firepower of that magnitude?

In home entertainment, several late summer and early fall titles make their debut just in time for gift-giving, and they make the majority of the slate. Television takes a break, and horror takes over the high-def titles from the past. We wrap up the show with Denise and the Quick Flicks, and we wrap up the year with this final 2016 edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

After almost a year, John returns with his brief looks at the "classic" Doctor Who series.  We pick things up with "The Aztecs", a fantastic first season story that asks the question most time travelers wonder, what would you change about the past if you could and would you be able?  Barbara is given the opportunity when she is mistaken for an Aztec god.  For her, it's the perfect opportunity to end some of the barbaric behavior of the Aztecs, but for others, it's an opportunity to jockey for power and in doing so, endangers the lives of the time travelers.  Take a listen and let John know what you think.

For our second Christmas-themed episode this year, we move from Christmas into New Year’s.  We start off with Eve Arden in “Our Miss Brooks.”  It’s Christmas Eve, and Connie seems destined to spend it alone (if you don’t count her pathetic little Christmas tree), but what would a Christmas comedy be without a little miracle?  Then it’s time to “Meet Me at Parky’s,” where that congenial Greek restaurateur, Parky himself, will spend the end of December looking for tickets to the New Year’s Day Rose Bowl game in Pasadena.  If he can get any, that will be a miracle as well.

On an brand new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office picked up a December turkey as not even an Office Christmas Party could unseat Moana as the box office champ. This may be the last week on top for our animated heroine, but Disney's doing pretty well as they debut Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

In home entertainment, it's super-villains working off prison sentences, peculiar children with super powers, and a biblical epic to start things off. TV on DVD brings Star Trek, Korra, Dirk Gently, andt he slate belongs to the movies as six titles from 2016 make their premiere. Add them to a baby for Bridget Jones, a House of Lies, and another dose of the Walking Dead. Finally, Denise wraps things up with the Quick Flicks and we present you with a shiny new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an brand new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it was a terrible week to be a new release. Moana and Fantastic Beasts ruled the roost once again, and they have one more week to keep audiences entertained before the Death Star comes back to town. In the meantime, Miss Sloane and the Office Christmas Party will try their hardest to win hearts, minds, and cold hard cash. Do they have a chance against wizards, teenage heroes, and demigods?

Home entertainment gets busy as pets, super secret agents, cowboys, airline heroes, and storks make waves. Among these big name titles, however, is a touching documentary from a son to his late father, an idol from a science fiction legend. Television titles include irreverent animation, romance, a spinoff from a galaxy far away, and a high fantasy MTV project. It all rounds out with octane as Mad Max hits shelves in Black and Chrome fashion.

Finally, Denise brings it all to a close with a fitting and thematic review of a deeply inspirational film in the Quick Flicks. What better way to stay warm as December debuts than with your friends at The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

For our first Christmas-themed episode this year, we present the LUX RADIO THEATER adaptation of the Judy Garland classic, “Meet Me in St. Louis.”  This one-hour version drops the character of Agnes, but retains, in the roles they originated in the 1944 film, Judy Garland and Margaret O’Brien as sisters Esther and Tootie Smith, as well as Tom Drake as The Boy Next Door, John Truett.  And you get to hear Garland perform a few songs that have since become standards, “The Boy Next Door,” “The Trolley Song,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

Shazam!

"Double Trouble"

September 27, 1975

Billy and Mentor are shocked to learn that Captain Marvel is accused of robbing a gas station.  Billy's first instinct is to investigate the matter, but he turns himself in as Captain Marvel in order to prove a point to a young boy about the idea that no one is above the law.  But if Captain Marvel is in jail, who is going to prove his innocence?

John and Richard are both in agreement that this is one of the best episodes in the entire series.  We learn though it's one that Jackson Bostwick suggested as an idea for the show and it allows Captain Marvel a lot more dialogue and screen time.  The two discuss the potential of the episode, the importance of the moral today in a world where many feel they are above the law, and the number of known actors who appeared in this episode.

It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode.  Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.

Moral: “Respecting the law is just another way of saying that we respect each other. Laws have been made for the good of everyone, and when someone breaks the law, they're saying "I don't care about you." When you respect the law, you respect yourself."

On an brand new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office shrugged off a turkey coma as Moana unseats Fantastic Beasts as the box office champ. Unfortunately, that luck didn't spread far among the new releases. The good news is that they have a chance to remain in the running since this week brings only one contender to the table.

In home entertainment, the slate belongs to the movies as six titles from 2016 make their premiere. Add them to a baby for Bridget Jones, a House of Lies, and a game of Finders Keepers to put the finishing touches on the plate. Add in dessert with Denise and the Quick Flicks, and you have an end-of-the-month edition of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

"The Londinium Larcenies/The Foggiest Notion/The Bloody Tower"

Aired November 23/30 and December 6, 1967

Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Commissioner Gordon travel to Londinium at the request of the President to help Venerable Ireland Yard with a series of bizarre thefts throughout the city.  Batman quickly realizes that the evidence points to Lord Marmaduke Ffogg and Lady Penelope Peasoup and her finishing school for girls.

Once again, we are faced with a three-part story so big, it needs three guests hosts to cover every detail.  Jim Beard of Gotham City 14 Miles travels with John overseas to discuss the episode with Andrew Leyland of the HeyKids Comics Podcast and photographer and Batman 66 board moderator Ben Bentley.  We know we like it, but why?  It's a mess of a story and there are a number of missed opportunities.  And does Batgirl really play a part in this story?  It's all here on a double-sized episode.

The Hornet investigates a series of crimes that were predicted by a super computer.  Are they connected?

This is another of the high concept episodes that Jim likes to see on The Green Hornet, but even he admits this one has its faults.  How close are the two to agreeing on this one?   Let us know what you think of the episode by writing us here or at thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.

John returns to the world of oddities and antiquities with the story of a young man trying to desperately salvage a relationship with a young doctor in residence.  In an act of demonstrating his commitment to her, he purchases an antique stethoscope.  The resident quickly realizes that the instrument has the ability to heal people of the most serious illnesses.  And what was meant to heal a relationship causes more of a rift as the young doctor becomes more and more obsessed with helping the world with its ills.

 Isis

"Spots of the Leopard"

September 20, 1975

Jenny's father Chuck has returned after a stay in prison for theft and wants to start his life over.  A series of thefts of industrial diamonds has a similar MO to Chuck's leading to almost everyone to believe, including Jenny, that Chuck may be guilty.  Everyone, except Andrea.  Can she prove this to Jenny before it's too late?

John and Richard are impressed with this episode, which they feel has more depth than a usual episode of either series.  They go on to discuss how Isis feels like it learned from the mistakes of the first season of Shazam! while Shazam! continues to produce the same kind of stories as before.  Finally, they make the comparison of these two shows with Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode.  Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.

Moral: "Today we learned the importance of keeping faith in a friend or someone you love even if it seems they’ve done something wrong.   If they have, it will come out soon enough.  If they haven’t, they need someone who will believe in them when others won’t.  That’s what being a true friend really means."

For Thanksgiving, we present two Turkey Day-themed comedies.  First up, on “The Jack Benny Show,” Mary reads a poem she wrote just for 1939.  From 1939 to 1941, Thanksgiving was celebrated not on the fourth Thursday of the month, but the third.  Then Jack wonders what’s going on when the turkey he bought lays an egg as big as a cantaloupe.  “The Great Gildersleeve” was always filled with topical laughs.  As Thanksgiving approaches, Gildy hopes to get a coveted “B Ration” gas card, nephew Leroy has to perform in the school Thanksgiving play, and it becomes harder and harder to actually find a turkey.

On an all-new Double Digest edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office remains strange as the good doctor fends off aliens, angry offspring, and a mid-November horror flick. This week sees one brand of magic facing off against another as Doctor Strange defends his title against the first Harry Potter spinoff in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And if that's not enough magic, Moana joins that fray in two weeks. Welcome to the November blockbuster season.

In home entertainment, a fish finds home in Finding Dory and Star Wars takes another chunk out of everyone's budgets. In the "One of These Things is Not Like the Other" Department, the Suicide Squad, Jason Bourne, and The Secret Life of Pets make their digital debuts. On television, we welcome the drama of Westeros, an animated Trek, and another entry from MST3K. Finally, two classics debut in HD as the Looney Tunes crew plays basketball and the Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller does what Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers do best.

Is that all? Of course not. What kind of bountiful feast for the ears would this be without Denise and the Quick Flicks? All of this in a double episode for the debut of the holiday season on The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office goes strange as the Doctor Strange takes the top spot. There are no losers among the newbies, as Trolls and Hacksaw Ridge aren't far behind. Next week's new arrivals (see what we did there?) will attempt to take down the good doctor with aliens, family drama, and shut-in thrillers.

In home entertainment, we have a Sausage Party, the digital debut of Kubo, and the Devil of Hell's Kitchen leading the pack. After we put a bow on the package with Denise and the Quick Flicks, it's time to deliver you a brand new installment of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, November debuts with a repeat winner as Boo! A Madea Halloween fends off a tepid performance by Inferno. Robert Langdon's disappointing debut will likely result in a rapid decline as Marvel returns to the stage with Doctor Strange. Following on the doctor's heels are an animated comedy about Trolls and a war drama called Hacksaw Ridge.

In home entertainment, we boldy go with Star Trek Beyond, Bad Moms, and the Return of the Caped Crusaders. It's a Sausage Party on digital, and a smorgasbord of home entertainment including Librarirans, IT professionals, and time travelers. Wrap things up with Denise and the Quick Flicks, and you have a shiny new installment of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

NOTE: With apologies to Michael and Denise, here is a much delayed episode of The Weekly Podioplex.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, it's the last show of the month, and a surprising (yet fitting) champion has emerged with Boo! A Madea Halloween. It's not certain how long Madea will hold the crown since Jack Reacher wasn't far behind, and there's a conspiracy on the horizon with Robert Langdon and his adventures in Inferno.

In home entertainment, we go on a Hunt for the Wilderpeople, find Dory on digital, race Nash Bridges on the television front, and head off to Neverland in a hi-def look back to 1991. It's a short slate, but it ends in top fashion as Denise brings you the news in the Quick Flicks, putting the wrap on this installment of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

With the World Series almost upon us, we thought we’d give you a tale of baseball that culminates at the World Series.  “The Lux Radio Theater” brought listeners abridged versions of popular films of the day.  This time it’s “It Happens Every Spring,” with Ray Miland reprising the role he created in the 1949 film of the same name.  Miland plays a mild-mannered college professor who stumbles up on wood repellent.  When secretly applied to baseballs, it makes him a pitcher that no one can hit.  Play ball!

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, we're moving into October's back half with a win from The Accountant as it leads the stunning stage bow for Kevin Hart and the stumbling Max Steel. Next week will be action-on-action action as Jack Reacher returns to the silver screen and challenges Affleck for the crown.

In home entertainment, Jeff Goldblum and company return to save Earth in Independence Day: Resurgence, while Alice Through the Looking Glass debuts on digtial. In the television department, Bates Motel and Teen Wolf escort the powerhouse Downton Abbey to disc, and to round out the list, we get creepy dolls and creepier serial killers in the return of Child's Play.

Cap it all off with Denise and the Quick Flicks, and you have the newest installment of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, we're haunting the station as The Girl on the Train arrives on time despite a poor reception, solidly beating the rest of the newcomers. She faces some steep competition from The Accountant, Max Steel, and Kevin Hart and we enter the middle of the month.

In home entertainment, the Ghostbusters and Krampus take advantage of the season in a bid for your shelves, along with the Ice Age crew and Tarzan. If digital is more your speed, Batman and Robin dust off the cowl and tights for another amazing adventure. Meanwhile, TV on DVD goes retro with a handful of blasts from the past to accompany Hannibal, Mike & Molly, and The Good Witch. To wrap things up, a Stephen King classic brings the scares from the past on Blu-Ray.

Finally, Denise wraps things up with the Quick Flicks, putting the stake in this installment of The Weekly Podioplex, brought to you on The Chronic Rift Network.

Planning on catching The Return of the Caped Crusaders this Monday?  Well, take a listen to our discussion with Burt Ward about the making of it.

He's one half of the Dynamic Duo.  He's known as the Boy Wonder.  In addition, he's also the Canine Crusader.  Burt Ward joins John and Dan Greenfield of 13th Dimension in the Batcave to discuss his time as Robin, his love for dogs and the steps he's gone to rescue as many canines as possible, and the upcoming The Return of the Caped Crusaders direct to DVD animated feature.

Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions is the largest giant breed dog rescue in the world.  Located on a sprawling estate just one hour east of Los Angeles in Riverside County, California, Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions, Inc. is a California non-profit 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation, and is the charity of Burt and Tracy Ward.

Burt, who gained fame as the Batman’s sidekick “Robin, the Boy Wonder” in the 1960’s television series and in subsequent film and television roles, has built a luxurious home for the more than 14,600 Gentle Giants and Little Giants that he and Tracy have rescued and adopted during the last 19 years.

There is always a wide selection of Gentle Giants, including Great Danes, Borzoi, English Mastiffs, Greyhounds,Irish Wolfhound combinations, Neopolitan Mastiffs, Fila Brasileiro, Bullmastiffs, Spanish Mastiffs, American Mastiffs, Adronicus Mastiffs, South African Boerboel Mastiffs, Dogue de Bordeaux French Mastiffs, Saint Bernards, Great Pyrenees, Newfoundlands, Sasquatch, Leonbergers and other Large Lap Dogs as well as many Little Giant breeds, including Whippets, Silken Windhounds, Italian Greyhounds, Peruvian Inca Orchid, Xoloitzcuintle, Shelties, and Chinese Crested available for adoption at Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions.

The population of these Gentle Giants and Little Giants constantly changes each day as more are adopted and more are rescued from shelters and arrive from homes where their owners can no longer keep them, usually because of hardship or drastic changes in their lives due to divorce, illness, bankruptcy, job moves, military duty, etc.

These dogs are incredibly beautiful and perfect family members who have been dearly loved, but now are in need of qualified new homes where they will again be loved, cherished and safe.  Burt and Tracy always have a large number of Gentle Giants and Little Giants of every size, age, color, and personality available for adoption.

There are too many Gentle Giant and Little Giant breeds at Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions to be listed individually.  At any given time, there may be puppies available, but there is always a variety of youthful and mature Gentle Giants and Little Giants, male and female, in every official and unofficial color.

If you are interested in adopting a Gentle Giant or a Little Giant, please complete our Online Adoption Application at the following link: "Adoption Information and Application."

We will review your application and respond to you usually within 48 hours to discuss your application and to set up your appointment to adopt.

"PROGRAMMED FOR DEATH"

AIRED: SEPTEMBER 23, 2016

A group of underworld leaders are planning something big and it's up to the Hornet and Kato to stop it.  The two are drawn into the group's scheme when a Sentinel reporter is killed by a leopard in the Sentinel newsroom.

John and Jim are at odds with how good this episode is.  Jim feels it shows the program's true potential by showing off such high concepts, but John is not as impressed.  Let us know what you think of the episode by writing us here or at thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, there can only be seven as the remake of the classic Magnificent Seven rustles up box office gold. Quick on their heels is a special delivery from Storks, and the match is set for this week's winners and the newcomers, Miss Peregrine, Deepwater Horizon, and some Masterminds. It's a regular showdown in September.

Moving to home entertainment, quite a few lower end summer performers are coming to disc, and digital video showcases a preview of coming attractions with Ghostbusters and Independence Day: Resurgence. TV on DVD comes to the table with Grimm, Reign, and Ripper Street, and the classics on Blu-Ray proclaim that there can only be one. Not seven, but one, as Highlander reaches its thirtieth anniversary.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, Sully's still strong as the newbies all fall short. The next group of contenders for the crown are magnificent, including Storks and the remake of the Magnificent Seven. Can an animated comedy or a western succeed where the Blair Witch, Bridget Jones, and Snowden could not?

Moving to home entertainment, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back, as are the Neighbors and the Free State of Jones. Digital video brings the Purge and a new look at the legend of Tarzan, and television rings up an idiosyncratic mystery tale in Twin Peaks. Finally, the classics celebrate an eigthieth birthday with a thirtieth anniversary.

"Surf''s Up, Joker's Under"

Aired November 16, 1967

The Joker plans to become king of the surf by winning the championships at Gotham Point.  Didn't know he could surf, did you?  Well he can, thanks to the reverseramator, he's been able to steal the surfing ability of champion surfer Skip Parker.  It's all part of Joker's scheme to control the minds of the surfing community and in time, the world.  We've seen a similar theme this season with the Riddler, the Penguin, and even Louie the Lilac and this one is the most outlandish - but it works.

Joining John to discuss this episode is Dan Greenfield, creator and author of the 13th Dimension website.  In fact, Dan will argue that this may be one of the best episodes, not only of the third season, but of the entire series itself.  Take a listen and let us know what you think.

"GIVE EM ENOUGH ROPE"

AIRED: SEPTEMBER 16, 2016

An insurance racket has been operating in the city.  The Hornet looks into the operation when an informant of Mike Axford's is killed as he's about to speak with Axford.  Not only does the Hornet have a lot to deal with in this episode, but so does Britt as he must deal with the lawyer of the man Axford accuses in the pages of the Sentinel of running the insurance ring.

John and Jim have a lot to discuss what with the lame method of roping and killing the intended victims of the racketeers, the ethics of Britt having lunch with the lawyer of the alleged racketeer, and the fact that Miss Case has not been used to her full potential yet.  Let us know what you think of the episode by writing us here or at thebatcavepodcast@gmail.com.

On an all-new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, we return to the podcasting airwaves as Tom Hanks returns to the number one position with the story of Sully and the Miracle on the Hudson. Coming up against the airline captain are sequels and real world drama including Bridget Jones, the Blair Witch, and Edward Snowden.

Moving to home entertainment, Marvel declares Civil War, the Warrens return to the Conjuring, and a shark terrorizes Blake Lively in The Shallows. Television gets a Big Bang, a trip to Longmire, and a visit from Madam Secretary. We wrap that section with a look back on Stand By Me and the Transformers. Add in a bit of news about a certain fedora-clad archeologist and an unofficial fan film, and you have a brand new edition of The Weekly Podioplex, exclusively on The Chronic Rift Network.

"Charlie X"
Aired: September 15, 1966

The Enterprise takes on the lone survivor of a crashed transport ship.  The young teen struggles with being among so many people and learning how to behave.  But he is struggling with something else as well, something that could threaten all of humanity if he's not stopped.

John and Krissy have a great deal to say about this episode, one they feel would have made a better first episode to premiere the series as it has the action and yet the intellectual beats we expect in an episode of Star Trek.  Do you agree with our assessment?  Leave your thoughts on the episode here.

Shazam!

"Fool's Gold"

September 20, 1975

An old gold prospector is tormented by a group of young boys in the mountains near his claim.  But when he's trapped within his mine, will they do the right thing and save him in time?

Actor Michael Gray returns to the podcast to discuss another favorite of his from the Shazam! series.  This episode marks the final appearance of Jackson Bostwick in the role of Captain Marvel.  In addition to discussing the episode, Michael also talks about the accident that brought about Jackson's departure, the bonus feature he appears in on the Archer sixth season DVD set, and the possibility of his appearing on Dancing with the Stars.

It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode.  Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.

Moral: “There are some things even more precious than gold, things like respect and understanding. Respect means more than being polite. It means knowing we've learned from each other. There's a lot we can learn, if we only listen."

John and Krissy are joined by the wonderful Billy Flynn of Geek Radio Daily in the first hour of the podcast.  They talk about Stranger Things, The Tick, British actors affecting American accents, Match Game 2016 and the whole game show revival and more.  In the second hour, the three are joined by writer/editor Jim Beard to discuss the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.

Some questions discussed include:

- Do we fetishize Star Trek to the point where we miss the point of it? (with thanks to Dan Persons for his commentary)

- Is it fair that Star Trek, the original series, is sharing the celebration with all the other versions of the Star Trek series?

 - Which kind of Star Trek works best?

Show Notes

4:55 - Billy Flynn feels that Stranger Things is a great homage to 80s Stephen King.

16:38 - John is hoping that people will vote for The Tick as Amazon's next produced series.

27:00 - Krissy recounts her meeting and having a conversation with Charlie Cox of Daredevil.

"The Man Trap"

September 8, 1966

50 years ago on this date, Star Trek premiered on the NBC Network.  Most people know the story of the struggle the show went through to stay on the air, the letter-writing campaigns that were mounted in an effort to save the show from cancellation.  It only lasted three seasons, but it lived on with the fans through syndicated television.  From there, the show spawned numerous spin-off television shows and theatrical movies.  As Star Trek moves into a new generation with a recently released movie and a new television series set to bow in January 2017, John felt it was the time to take a moment a discuss each episode on the 50th anniversary of its airing.

Joining John to discuss the series is "the next generation" of fandom, Krissy Myers.  Together, they will take a brief look at each episode and offer their immediate reactions to watching each either for the first time, as in Krissy's case, or after numerous viewings, as in John's case.

First up is the very first episode, "The Man Trap".  The two talk about how Canada was cheated in getting the credit for the actual 50th anniversary of the premiere of the series, how the televised episode differs from earlier drafts (based on John's readings of James Blish's adaptation), and how this felt more like an episode of Lost in Space and not Star Trek.  Take a listen and join in the conversation, letting us know what you think here or over on our Facebook page.

"The Ogg and I/How to Hatch a Dinosaur"

Aired November 2/9, 1967

Vincent Price makes a welcome return to Batman as the villainous Egghead.  He is joined by Anne Baxter as Olga, Queen of the Bessarovian Cossacks.  Together they have plans for Gotham City.  In fact, are there too many plans?  What is the main scheme in this plot?  Who is in charge as it seems to change from episode to episode?  And what is the history of this two-parter in relation to the third episode that will follow in a few weeks' time?

Joining John to talk about Vincent Price's triumphant and yet not so triumphant return to Batman is author and podcaster, Kevin Lauderdale.

We think of Ray Bradbury as a fantasist or a science fiction writer.  But he was equally adept at crime drama.  One of his first sales was “Killer Come Back to Me” to Detective Tales in July of 1944.  Less than two years later, it was adapted for the radio by the “Molle Mystery Theatre.” This hard-boiled noir tale of killers, dames, and stolen identities takes a number of clever twists and turns.  But does crime ever pay?  Then on “Meet Me At Parky’s,” everyone’s favorite Greek restauranteur decides to help out with a teacher shortage.  He may be known for his malapropisms in English, but if he’s going to teach his native Greek nothing could possibly go wrong, right?

It's the Labor Day weekend in America and everyone's away for the last hurrah of summer.  In Atlanta, DragonCon is in full swing and John nor Keith could be there.  Keith couldn't be with us on the podcast either, but John worked out a way for him to be on anyway.  Here are two panels from last year's DragonCon featuring Keith.

3:20:  Klingon History - Keith's The Klingon Art of War had recently been published and Keith had written an extensive amount Trek literature featuring the Klingons so it made perfect sense to include him in this panel.  Panelists include Erika Yvette Figueroa and Morgan Skye.

On an all-new edition Dragon Con Double Header edition of The Weekly Podioplex, the box office was breathless as Don't Breathe dethroned the Suicide Squad, and even with a mediocre box office performance, Jason Statham still scored a victory in Mechanic: Resurrection. The next two will test the winning thriller with romance, drama, comedy, and the real life tale of Sully.

In home entertainment, the next two weeks are big with The Jungle Book, Me Before You, Now You See Me 2, and Money Monster dominating the discs. DC Comics delivers on TV with The Flash and Arrow arriving alongside Star Wars Rebels, Grey's Anatomy, and Supernatural. We also get a blast from the past as Charlie's Angels open their investigation and Star Trek boldly goes to a 50th anniversary.

Isis

"Fool's Dare"

September 13, 1975

Cindy Lee takes a dare to spend time in an abandoned junkyard.  But she's unaware of the danger that lies within.  And how is the junkyard connected to a car theft ring?  And why doesn't Andrea simply turn to Isis for help when her car is stolen?  These questions and more will be discussed on a new episode of the podcast.

John and Richard wind up being split on how they feel about this episode.  It's good, but is it as good as one of them feels?  Also, what were the producers thinking when they dressed Cindy Lee in the more child-like clothing?  And just how cool is Tut?  Take a listen and let us know what you think.

It's all here and we want to hear from you on what you think of the episode.  Write us as ShazamIsisPodcast@gmail.com.

Moral: "When someone dares you to do something, it's often either something dangerous or wrong to for some other reason.  So the question isn't whether you have the guts to do it or not, the question is do you have the nerve enough not to take the dare? Doing anything that you know is wrong is dumb, because you're the one who pays for it."
